City Voice - Name the stand

Maybe I'm just not as naïve but why do people believe that their views will be taken into consideration?
Who the fuck here voted/asked for digital LED flags? Haha come on....

Every season card holder could ask this marketing research company probably from London that we want to name the stand after Bert Trautmann but they will sit around in their suits and decide on what will make the most money, engage supporters the most.... Oh we know, name the stand the Origami Yushi stand for a day as he is a citizen for well over 3mths now and retweets every one of our Twitter accounts tweets every day... This guy is a top top blue.

I too replied stating that it was a gimmick idea, especially for the south stand. We want to recreate a stand with identity, ala the Kippax, not a gimmicky stand. Told them that their idea would be better placed in the Family Stand.

Also said it was cringe and that I hated it. Hopefully the club will take note.

For me, it has to be the 1894 Stand. Purely because it's now the home of the singing section, organised by the 1894 group, and if they really want the idea of having one stand to rival those that we see from clubs in Europe, then they need to associate that stand with the people in it and the message behind it. It would be a great coup for those that started the 1894 group and a real commitment from City that they are behind it.

The fact that it's also an important part in City's history makes it a no brainer. If I turned up and the stand was in my name i'd feel actually embarrassed.

We don't have a singing section. The only singing done is in away games.

Spot on!! Calling the stand 1894 when you are yet to outsung anyone falls short of a guy who helped us to win the FA Cup with a broken neck - or our great owner!

It's unfair to say we don't have a singing section when this upcoming season is the first one where we've properly had people en masse voluntarily relocate their season tickets to create one, and a ball hasn't been kicked yet.

That said, I'm not advocating we name a stand after a singing section that hasn't been proven to be effective yet either. Just makes sense (to me) to let time pass and see if there is a cause to rename the stand the 1894 stand based on what goes on in the stand.

The Club are asking for ideas about officially re-naming the South Stand. Whereas some of us may occasionally refer to the East Stand as The Kippax that is an unofficial reference amongst, probably, not that many. I take your point, the East Stand is opposite the Main Stand (West Stand,Colin Bell Stand) and originally was occupied mainly by fans who had transferred from Maine Road`s `New Kippax`. The `singers` for want of a better word, will mainly congregate behind the goal in the currently named South Stand. In the spirit of The Kippax, why not recognise the name formally, forever, and why not now for the new South Stand?
good shout....why not re-name the east stand the fuckin platt lane end while their at it...........

I'd like to think that We could have Joe Mercer Way, The Colin Bell Stand, The Bert Trautmann End, The Kippax and finally when he retires you name the North Stand either the Sergio Aguero or 93:20 end.

I agree that the Club should think about the names of all the stands now even if they are not actually re-named at this point in time. We need a suite of names that make sense, have longevity, resonance and meaning. Names that not only recognise what CITY and reflect the spirit of the club but send out a message to the football world that we are original modern.

Flippin' heck, give us a chance mate - it's hard to judge something before we've even had one game as a group in there!

The Bert Trautmann stand would be good, I don't think anyone disagree's with that, I just feel there are more relevant names we could go for as opposed to something that happened in the 50's. Mansour stand would be more appropriate IMO, but I don't think it's his style.

I think Joe Hart has a good case for having this stand named after himself - more so than Bert Trautmann.

He's been our best keeper since we moved to the new stadium. He's won more trophies than any other keeper in City's history. He's a spokesperson for the club who seems to represent City as well as anyone. He will most probably earn 100+ England caps. He's clearly got a good bond with the fans at that end of the ground (Think of all the songs - Joey do the poznan - where's your dandruff gone - Joey do the samba etc). He's won more Premier League Golden Glove's than anyone else and is the ONLY English keeper to claim the award.

Obviously I wouldn't name the stand after him until he's retired, but if he stays with us for nearly his entire career then he has to be remembered somehow.

I think some City fans on here are trying to hard to prove we have legends and wanting to stay in touch with our history - which is great, but let's not forget about the people who are making the club tick now, in our most successful era!

Fair comments Manchester33, At the age of 28 you could argue that there is the potential for Joe to spend another 8 to 10 years with the club as long as he retains his ability. If it does pan out that way then you're looking at undoubtedly one of City's all time greats, surpassing Trautmann, Corrigan and Swift.

I'm sure he will be honoured in an appropriate manner when the time is right.

The only name suitable for the family stand would be the "Sit here if yer want to win the end of season free season ticket, trip to Oz, Abu Dhabi 'cos nobody else sittin' anywhere else ever wins it Stand"!

I haven't read pages 2-7 as I can't be fucked what others think but I think the Cityzen Stand is ok. Bert Trautmann, otherwise, if they don't choose The Dave Ewing Own Goal Stand!
