Never done so much as a UK-based friendly before but sorely tempted to do it, just for the experience. Someone persuade me quickly, before I get cold feet and decide to protect my wallet :/
You really would be mad if you ask me.

I've been to friendlies at places as close as Oldham and Rochdale and sworn blind I'd never go to another friendly again as I left.

If you want to go abroad watching city hang on a few weeks and go to a champions league game. That's my advice.

No disrespect meant to anyone going of course.

Duly born in mind. I was interested in it as much for the experience as for the football, I have watched friendlies on TV/t'internets before so I know what the quality can be like (I have a fairly high tolerance for dross though, which does help). Honestly I'm as much interested in it for the travel opportunity. But it's a fair bit of money for a one or two night stay, so I'm sat on the fence about it. Tis kind of why I'm interested to see what people say about these trips and whether they are worth going on.

What about hamburg and Barcelona friendlies they were a lot better than the Oldham one watching city abroad nowt better

I understand mate.

I'm referring more to the kind of friendlies we used to play where they were played at half pace , and noone tackles, and 24 players are used, rendering the whole thing boring, meaningless and usually conducted in a flat atmosphere.

These modern day, money-oriented friendlies are a little bit more intense, and the last one is usually taken as a dry run for the season so you see a strong team, But it will still be a friendly. I wouldn't go because I'd rather use my time away from the family for a champs league game. But I'm married with very young kids.

It's up to you of course. I'm sure if you went with the right mates you could still have a bloody good laugh. But they aren't for me.

I forgot to mention: my other problem - I have very few days left to book off work for the year so I really can't afford to fly out to a mid-week game this side of January. I'm anticipating I could do this without taking any time off, even if I flew out on the Friday.

But all the same, cheers for the input.

No worries mate. You asked for someone to persuade you not to go ;-)

Enjoy it if you do go. I'm sure a trip like that would be enjoyable if you took it as a nice weekend break with a bit of football thrown in. I don't know a great deal about Hell Stinky to be honest, although my wife and I had a weekend bought for us as a present about 7 years ago. We actually didn't bother in the end, but for dull personal reasons.

I've booked it now, mainly because it's weekend and i don't need any time off.

Flying out Friday evening from Manchester and back into Heathrow Sunday evening (only flight back to Manchester was at 8.25 am)

Been to Helsinki before and it's a cool city, should be a good weekend.

I'm going, booked flights last night. Be interesting to see how many numbers we take out there. Fingers crossed a great weekend!

Booked been before let say take a bit of money not cheap flying Heathrow then staying at hilton at airport as early flight day after
