City vs Barca - Post Match Thread

In hindsight that was the formation we should have played in the second leg. Happy enough to get to half time all square but I'd have swapped Kolarov and Navas for Nasri & Jovetic for the second half.

This all day long - spot on - sadly

I thought we played better when Nasri and Silva were on tonight.

Now if we can devise a 5 man midfield which will keep us in the game in Barca, but also allow us to capitalise on opportunities that arise through having Nasri and Silva on, thenwe will win.

I thought it was an even game tonight. Both teams were pretty cautious at the start. Referee performance was average
However the limitations of Demichelis and Lescott were badly exposed in this match. We really should have gone for a quality CB in the transfer window.

Anyway, there's not much hope for the return leg, but I will keep hoping that we can win at their stadium and Aguero will be playing at his best by then..
Not sure what the club did wrong there. Which quality CB was available to come to us in the transfer window?

Just back from the game and quite frankly up until the sending off they created absolutely f**k all! Such a over rated team I can't believe how the media wank over them so bad. Were getting shat on by everyone, listening to the radio is just making me so much more angry! These Cunts sound like lifelong Barca fans the way their criticizing us. Anyone who knows anything about football could never say we got battered, they did nothing until the sending off.

Just one thing I noticed, and that's fans leaving the stadium before the final whistle. The players played with heart today, especially being down to ten men against a team of Barcelona's class. It would of been easy for them to of given up after the penalty went in, but they fought hard to try come back. Incredible performance with ten men, the only thing that was missing was a goal. Well done to the players for fighting until the death. Now they must fight until the death in the 2nd leg.
It was fucking shocking, looked like a bloody fire drill.

We did, but couldn't close a deal (Mangala). We tried in summer for Pepe but Madrid didn't want it.
People keep saying we should get this an that. We are trying but it's not that easy.

I'm aware of that rumor mate. My above post was not a criticism but a statement, or a wistful thinking that had we actually got a decent CB, we may have taken the fight to them or maybe even won this game. I for one am pretty happy with how City played today. Maybe because measuring our performances against such quality opposition, I know we can go much further ahead in the Champions League during the coming seasons..

I know. Didn't mean to sound like I was having a go at you. I think the club no what is wanted, it's just about getting the right personnel.

Just back from the match. Didnt really rate barca all that highly.
Pellegrini didn't have too many options. Messi did absolutely nothing and we had the best chances which supports his tactics.
Up until the sending off hart had one 30 yard shot to save.

Centre back and left back have been weak links and they were exposed.

Big ask now but looking at barca tonight I don't think the tie is over by any stretch.

Can't believe some of what I'm reading on here tonight.

I have been guilty many many times of spouting off whilst gutted or angry about a result or performance, and I've lost count of the times I've reread my posts the day after and been embarrassed but bloody hell some people tonight...

MDM was doing just fine until the penalty (that wasn't) and the red card (that also wasn't).

MP IMO got his tactics pretty spot on. As much as they had tonnes of possession , which we all KNEW they would have before the game -it's just how it is with Barça - , they didn't actually frighten us until the penalty.

Even with ten men we IMO matched them for threat in the second half. The second goal was a killer but shit like that happens when you're playing one of the best and certainly the most experienced teams in the world.

Pellers can hold his head high after tonight, as can the team. Am I the only one who is actually thinking "fuck it, we've just been up against the best in the world and you know what? We BELONG in that company. Bring on the next few years . I can't wait"

Well done Manuel. Well done lads. Well done MDM, you especially were robbed tonight mate.

CTID.

I honestly thought we were starting to turn the screw early second half, upped tempo and were looking more aggressive. Pen/sending off fucked things right up.
