City vs Barca - Post Match Thread

The screen shots are great. Unfortunately the ref doesn't have that luxury. You win some, you lose some.

which is why the sport needs to bring in instant replay.

I'm proud of the team tonight and like most on here, up until the red card we were in that game.

What I will say is that I thought Pellegrini got it wrong with with the starting line up, for me Kolarov should not have been played at left wing, Nasri should have been there, and Toure should have played more advanced with the more defensive duties being left to Fernandinho and Garcia - Yaya is too physical in my opinion for European referees against a team like Barca, the Barca players were buying fouls of him.

Thought we were too conservative in the first half and thought we could have got at them a bit more, Barca looked like Spain at times; loads of possession, limited penetration.

Too many long balls not being won by our more taller and physical players as well.

I am being over critical maybe, but had to get it off my chest.

Kompany, Zab, Fernandinho, Silva and Nasri were immense and looked the part, Clichy bottled it if you ask me, Yaya struggles against top oppostion when having to play a more out and out defensive role, Demichelis was good but in typical fashion he made a bad judgement once again, Kolarov was poor going forward but not bad defensively, and Negredo looks like a victim of having played his first season in the Premier League with the intensity maybe having caught up with him.

Did no one find our play all a bit rushed? Especially first half. Maybe it's just that Barca defend so well and close down so well but we just seemed to be booting it upfield and losing possession by doing so.

Thought we could have controlled it better first half. We rushed and lost possession to easy at times. Funny thing is
for all Barca's possession they never looked like scoring and didn't. Shame about sending off as I think with 11 men
we could have caused them serious problems 2nd half. But we'll never know for sure. Hope we just go for it in 2nd leg.

Great to have Fernandinho back as well, he was outstanding tonight especially considering it was his first game back after a few weeks out. So many positives to come out of tonight, now lets go and twat stoke on Saturday!

The one good thing to come out of that match is that Demichelis is suspended!

Haha. Hilarious.

Fuck off.

You beat me to it.
you guys are taking yourselves far too seriously. We played as well as could be expected tonight and with a bit of luck could have got something out of that match, but without a doubt that second CB position is a weakness that needs addressing. We should get away with it domestically this season, but there are at least 3 sides in Europe (if not more) that will exploit it.

Yep, I mentioned a similar point earlier. When we had a spell of possession they didn't allow us time and pressed really quickly. When they had possession we would sit off for longer which inevitably allowed them plenty of time to make an incisive pass.

The more I think about this match the more I think we can get a result at the Nou Camp in three weeks time. Frankly Barca were not that intimidating and basically ineffective until we were (MDM is still awful) reduced to ten men. They needed a penalty to get on the score sheet. Even after the penalty they could not break us down. It took a slip from the defender in the box to put them through on goal for the second. Even at ten men we still had quality chances to even it up over the last half hour. I think Pelligrini had Barcelona's number today and we were an Aguero away from scoring and winning. Before MDM and his craziness of course. We may not win the away fixture but I expect us to go to the Nou Camp and score 2 or 3. I also expect Barcelona if they get through us to go out in the next round.

I'd also add I like that Pelligriini is already laying the groundwork with the next referee that is assigned to the away fixture with his post match comments. He never complains about the referees and I love that he is today because that guy was TERRIBLE.
