City vs Bayern Post Match Thread

Hey guys... Usually only read, but decided it was time to show myself for a change.

I can see why people would feel we didn't play great, as there were plenty of things that should be better at this level. However, In my opinion, we did play some of the better/best football we have all season. Were we lucky? Course we were, no doubt about it. But that's part of the game and we can't be negative about the perseverence of our lads. That's one thing they will always do: Fight til the end...

The thing that bothers me and has bothered me for a while now is the atmosphere in the stadium. At times we may as well not be there, it's so quiet. Looking at fans from the continent at games, we're (sorry to say) quite embarrassing. Last night, for example... Those Bayern lads never stopped. Now I get that away fans are always louder, but I'd be happy if we made a quarter of the noise they made. It was only the first and last 10 mins of the game that we made noise, the other 70 mins were a joke.

I would bet anything that this is a big part of why we play the way we play. It's up to the supporters to try and lift the team, to be that 12th man, just like we did those last 10 mins in which we won the game. It already goes wrong from the start, when our Blue Moon anthem is played to a half empty stadium... What's that about?! Never see that at Liverpool or West Ham. But people just don't seem to be interested in chanting anymore these days, for whatever reason, and I think it shows in the performances. Such a shame.

Something has to change, from both the players' end as well as the supporters' side. But at least we survived last night. Hopefully we can now turn things around.

Hope I've not pissed anyone off with my comments, as that's not my intention.

Hmmmmmm.........

Is it me but I thought we played quite well last night. This was Bayern - We bossed most of the 2nd half and we were doing ok until they had the free kick

No, they bossed us with 10 Players and had youth Players in their Team. And their main Players were injured , and some rested in the Reserves, in a Game which for them is a friendly.

I hope we dont see them in quarter final or something, I rather face Barcelona or Chelsea than them.

You're not fooling anyone.....

Hope this works..........Radio commentary on the goals from last night. R5L

Wow it's interesting to see everybody cheering up after a blatant fixed game. Check any italian football forum. So obvious, two gifts in the last minutes. Bayern shame of Europe! it's not the first time they do it for the money, check UEFA cup against Zenit where some Bayern players got bribed. How comes they didnt play vs City the way they played vs ROMA, Guardiola fielding bullshit kids and bragging what a professional he is always going for victory. And City is no better for pulling this rigged shit, FUCKING PATHETIC. We may not be among the big teams of Europe but we have pride. Oh and you wont be welcomed in ROMA!

I was at the game last night then watched the full game on ITV Player, which gives you a different view on it. The back four (and Fernando in front of them) were excellent, particularly Clichy who didn't put a foot wrong. The midfield worked hard but struggled to get into the game.

Navas and Nasri looked better on TV than they did live, although there were frustrations with both. With Navas it's his delivery and unwillingness to take defenders on when he's one-on-one. With Nasri, I'd have liked to see him create more rather than taking the safe option too many times. But he rarely gives away possession, which is important. Milner wasn't in the game at all, apart from that curling shot and taking him off was clearly the right decision in hindsight. I wasn't hugely impressed with Lampard last night but he did OK and had a few good moments. Saw nothing on TV to change that view.

Aguero actually had a quiet game up to the second goal (apart from the penalty) but came good when we needed him to. What coolness and clinical finishing under pressure!

Bayern certainly hold the ball well but really had very little threat, certainly once they went down to ten men. Ribery did nothing and Robben & Lewandowski little more, which was largely due to our superb defensive performance. Until Boateng's cock-up, they were solid at the back as well so the lack of real chances wasn't surprising. And apart from maybe not issuing a yellow card to Alonso for a couple of bad tackles the ref was spot on as well.

Coming out of the ground we were saying that Fernando and Mangala possibly had their best games so far for us. TalkSport on way home could do nothing but criticise these 2 "big money signings" to the extent that Custis was blaming Mangala for their second goal!!!! Wonder if he now realises it was Kompany and Sagna challenging him?
As a lot of people have said Bayern had loads of possession but never really created much. With better delivery, especially from Navas I feel we could well have gone 2 up before they equalised.
Love the medias pain at our victory. End of the day City 3-2 Bayern Munich. Love it.

Think it was one of those nights where neither side played badly, we perhaps didn't impose ourselves on their 10 men as well as we could but they were superb on the ball.

I don't think had they won, I would have come away thinking we were hard done to.

We had some nice play though at times and if Navas could learn how to actually cross a ball I am sure we would have caused more problems.

A good summary of the game, Prestwich_Blue.

Some people on here need to calm down, though.

This was Bayern Munich, NOT Coventry City (with all due respect, etc.). OK, they had a few players out, but what about us? I'm not saying they would all have started, but who did we have missing from the starting 11 (either though injury, suspension or a tactical decision)?

Silva
Yaya
Fernandinho
Dzeko
Kolarov
Demichelis
Zabaleta

It's true that Bayern had more possession than we did, but how many times has the same happened to us over the last few seasons? Possession is one thing, converting that possession into chances/goals is another thing.

Who had more shots? We did.

Who had more shots on target? We did.

Did Joe Hart have to make a single serious save in the second half? I can't remember too much.

How many times (even with less 'possession' than Bayern) did we carve them open down the right wing, in both halves. If Navas's final pass had been better, we would have won. End of.

Keep the Faith!

See you in Rome.

We were tactically good, we defended 5metres deeper the normal, we defended as a unit for once, we chased hard and restricted Bayern to few shots...we were poor on the ball. We gave it away for fun and we had a man extra. Navas is frustratingly wasteful, Milner had an unusually poor game, Fernando (absolutely worked his bollocks off) gave the ball away an awful lot.

We also didn't create a shooting chance for the first 19 minutes of the second half and that was very frustrating.

We did well, we defended well, we played quite poorly with the ball.

Now this is what I call constructive criticism. NO we're shit, an embarrassment etc.
Some should take note of this post.

It's wrong though, our pass completion was 86%, their's was 87%, you can't say we were wasteful with the ball unless you also think Bayern were.

Both goals were the fault of the midfield for not putting any pressure on Ribery and Alonso in the build up. I wouldn't blame any of the defenders, in fact for Lewandowski's goal I felt we should have had a free out, he had his elbow planted into the side of Sagna's head to prevent him challenging for the ball.
