Anyone notice that on the bench for Bayern was one Gianluca Gaudinio. Yes, son of short-stay City legend Maurizio, a player who, for me, showed glimpses of skill beyond that of the cretins he was playing with in 1995. MoGo had, to say the least, a colourful history.
Alleged Car Thief etc.............

Hjoberg and him are great talents

I havent read much on this thread so my honest unbiased opinion is that we started well, got stuck in and outplayed them for the first few minutes, they were scared and have been hurt by us before and we're becoming a bit of a hoodoo team for them (Might come in useful in future once we're better at Europe).

Their player was sent off because he stopped us scoring, hence 1-0 deserved. We needed to score again but were unlucky not to. Bayern rode their luck for the next 15 mins or so. Then imo Bayern bot two lucky goals, well executed tbf but was against the general run of play (With regards to attempts)

After that they ruled the game, we were too scared and they knew it, the flow to our passing stopped, nothing seemed to work and tbh Pelligrini should have stopped the rot. Without Aguerro we would not have won or drawn.

And! I do think that if Bayern had not had a player sent off we would have won anyway, we play better when the players have to work hard and not think!

Is it me but I thought we played quite well last night. This was Bayern - We bossed most of the 2nd half and we were doing ok until they had the free kick

No, they bossed us with 10 Players and had youth Players in their Team. And their main Players were injured , and some rested in the Reserves, in a Game which for them is a friendly.

I hope we dont see them in quarter final or something, I rather face Barcelona or Chelsea than them.

Bayern had good ball possession and created virtually nothing , considering our first choice midfield players were also not available , the overall performance was ok , going down to 10 men was not going to stop the way Bayern play , pass and move etc , and they are a very good team . At the end of the day their centre back was a dickhead and got sent off , so i dont make any allowances for them , and the history books will say we scored more goals than Bayern Munich , it wont mention how much possession they had or how their pretty little triangle passing formations worked , they f*cking LOST[/quo

The secret to playing against ten men is to dominate possession, use the width of the pitch and tire out your opponents by starving them of the ball. But Bayern turned that theory on its head after the first-half dismissal of Mehdi Benatia by beating City at what should have been their game. Despite their one-man advantage, City could not get hold of the ball as Bayern killed them with possession, scoring twice after falling behind following Benatia's red card.
Bayern showed that they were a very good team. They didn't have many first teamers out , as is claimed earlier. They won 4-0 at weekend and
Schweinsteiger was on the bench then. City won - that will do me. In the future we will have to speed up our game - find our front men better - last night far too many times the ball kept coming back as our midfield and attack were not keeping the ball.
The records will show - City 3 Bayern 2.

Haha, brilliant! Thanks for clearing that one up. I had no idea I was so naive to think that every ref should get 100% of the decisions correct. Of course I don't. What I do expect is every ref to be fair, and not to be consistently conned by diving and cheating. A ref who will not give the opposition free kicks when our player has cleanly won the ball (see Clichy's booking, Ribery's dive, Lewandowski's dive, etc.).
The fact that grown men, who've been watching football for years, can be duped into thinking the ref had a good game because (1) he gave us a penalty and (2) he was 'better' than most PL refs of late....amazes me. Would you have still said that had we failed to win the game?
He may have been better than others we've had lately, but he still had a bad game.

A simple question. Were you actually at the game ?

Of course not. Some people are unable to take time off work during the semester and fly half way across Europe to attend a game. I was, however, watching it in a bar full of plastic Austrian Bayern fans, the only Blue there. That gave me the benefit of being able to see the TV replays instantly after each refereeing decision, allowing me the opportunity to form my opinion. An opinion by which I stand - the referee was still poor.

Or is this one of those questions where I'm automatically a lesser Blue because I don't have a million loyalty points or a season card, or don't go to many games, so rendering my opinion completely irrelevant?

No,no I`m not one of those fans who slags of other City fans who don`t go to a match and obviously your place of abode has a bearing on that.
The reason I ask is because you (by that I mean TV viewers) along with tv commentators have the luxury of cameras at every angle, replays, etc,so you can see when and where a ref makes a poor judgement.
However having been to all of Citys CL home games over the past 4 years,I felt overall that the officials did a very good job and should be given some credit.
I can guarantee, that had we lost, the members on Blue Moon would have been in meltdown and accused the ref for our loss,as it happens after every defeat, the poor officials are always the first line of attack.
Give `em a break. They were some of the overseas best officials to have tried to be impartial, something which has not happened too often in our CL games.

We should sign him, we missed out on his dad really, only came to us in view of his issues back home and he never really settled / didnt stay. One of the best players i have ever seen in a city shirt.

Sendings OFF

Bayern: Benatia

Referee: Pavel Kralovec (Czech Republic) 7

Attendance: 47,726

Agree with the ratings? Have your say.
================================================================================
Attendances have always intrigued me - (since 84.569 - ok ask your granddad?) So when I saw the attendance quoted in the Muen above as
47,726 I could not believe it.

Due to 1). Stadium development(at the mo. our capacity is about 45,500),
2). Our current highest attendance is 47,434 against QPR.
3).Champs league games are usually 1500/2000 below capacity. - at all grounds.

So I was relived to see on the OS that the attendance was 44,502.

I was at the game last night then watched the full game on ITV Player, which gives you a different view on it. The back four (and Fernando in front of them) were excellent, particularly Clichy who didn't put a foot wrong. The midfield worked hard but struggled to get into the game.

Navas and Nasri looked better on TV than they did live, although there were frustrations with both. With Navas it's his delivery and unwillingness to take defenders on when he's one-on-one. With Nasri, I'd have liked to see him create more rather than taking the safe option too many times. But he rarely gives away possession, which is important. Milner wasn't in the game at all, apart from that curling shot and taking him off was clearly the right decision in hindsight. I wasn't hugely impressed with Lampard last night but he did OK and had a few good moments. Saw nothing on TV to change that view.

Aguero actually had a quiet game up to the second goal (apart from the penalty) but came good when we needed him to. What coolness and clinical finishing under pressure!

Bayern certainly hold the ball well but really had very little threat, certainly once they went down to ten men. Ribery did nothing and Robben & Lewandowski little more, which was largely due to our superb defensive performance. Until Boateng's cock-up, they were solid at the back as well so the lack of real chances wasn't surprising. And apart from maybe not issuing a yellow card to Alonso for a couple of bad tackles the ref was spot on as well.

Very good summary Prest. Blue

No it doesn't. But those at the game, including the referee had one chance to see an incident and everyone I spoke to thought he was good. Moomba summed it up well above. He wasn't bent.
