City vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach pre-match thread

In Pep Confidential he is quoted as saying that when players have to play within 3 days of their previous game they can make only a maximum 80% recovery assuming they are fully fit and are eating the correct diet. It was a hard game on Saturday so there may have to be some changes.

Looking forward to this match quite relaxed.

Not much to say about the Blues after the impressive derby win:

- Welcome party for Bravo, whom hopefully has been told by Pep that we want control and build-up - without risky play out of pure arrogance...
- What about Sergio? Is he fit?
- What about KDB? Hamstring or not? Maybe coming from the bench.
- Rotation for the fullbacks
- Start a strong XI and bring the match home nice and easy

Some words on Borussia Moenchengladbach (BMG):
- Used to have strong offense and weaker defense. Not as good as last year without Xhaka (to Arsenal).
- Lost 3-1 (HT 0-1) away to an aggressive and dominant Freiburg, BMG poor offense, defense being not compact enough. Poor attitude overall.
- offense Hermann out with a hamstring, offense Drmic out long term, weak bench anyway.
- 3 men defense line quite young: Elvedi (19), Christensen (20), Jantschke (26). Vestergaard maybe added in this one.

Their coach Schubert likes to play offensive football. If they do we'll rip 'em a new one. They know it.
On the other hand they are not very confident in the defense right now. We are a huge task for them, maybe just too big.

Could be a very nice footy match for City I feel - if we dominate from the start and attack their defense with pace into their channels.

Totally agree and they beat Pep's bayern 3-1 last year with very good display. They improved a lot after their coach got fired. Is Daoud still with them???

Yes. You were lucky last year as they played Bayern at the weekend and you as next match. Gladbach had an advantage then as Bayern had a lot of injuries - all left fullbacks and wingers, Thiago, Robben, Costa were missing.

But Gladbach is one of the teams that you never know what you are in for. They can beat every team on their day - and not just scrabby wins but with playing great football. Parking a bus and big luck or jinxed goals can make any underdog win - that's not it here. Raffael can really be a beast, Andre Hahn very fast and clinical, Thorgan on his day is not worse than his brother. Next day they loose matches you do not think they could loose...

PEP: “The draw was difficult. BMG are a brave team - one of the best teams in Europe. If we let them play, they have a lot of quality."
Kompany and Gundogan are almost ready to play, Aguero is fit to play tomorrow night (and his suspension doesn't count in European games).

PEP: "Mancini helped us to take the first step and Manuel made a real good job to achieve the semIs - he was unlucky to face Barca twice."
