City Vs Bournemouth Post Match Thread

It was a shame for Iheanacho - no question - as he took it brilliantly - but what everyone is forgetting is that the first goal was offside (as the defender in front of him was off the pitch) and in the context of the game that wrong decision going in our favour was better than not getting a sixth very late on due to another bad decision.

Bit unfair. Sterling first goal. Off side.

Yes, as noted above the player who would have played him on was off the pitch at the time the pass was played though came on afterwards. Probably why the linesman missed it. But that went in our favour at a key time. As did the Otamendi tackle where he missed the ball and then handled it on the slide through. Both were accidents but we all know many referees would have given a penalty and that was also a key decision that went for us. So overall we should not complain today about the officiating.

Considering most of our spine were missing, and Yaya for the second half too, that was a very good team performance, we were lucky Bournemouth played into our hands early by having a go, but we still played very well.

Excuse me.

The interpretations PDF

"Any defending player leaving the field of play for any reason without the referee’s permission shall be considered to be on his own goal line or touch line for the purposes of offside until the next stoppage in play"

:}
Its common sense too, players would be leaping off the pitch left right and centre, if some common sense wasn't applied.

Looked to me like the defender was back on the pitch by the time the pass was made to Sterling.
Even if he was not back on the pitch, then he was still playing Sterling onside.

"Players in either of these situations – whether they left the field during the course of play or stepped off to place an opponent in an offside position – are considered to be part of the game and thus accountable when determining offside position by their opponents."

Virtually all reports mention that Sterling was or might have been offside, which means that the reporters are ignorant of the rules.

Very pleasing result. Great effort by Sterling, Wilf gained confidence, no card for Fern.

The only downside was yet another blind linesman. Kelechi scored a perfectly well taken, on side goal and it gets rubbed out. Honestly the FA has to do something about these officials.

Personally I love that linesman as had £20 on 5-1 at 33-1 (also had 5-0) but yeah goal should deffo have stood

The Bournemouth player had his hand on the line at the point Bony played the ball to Sterling.

Was impressed with the way Bournemouth kept going but we barely gave them a sniff in the second half; despite being in second gear. We still give too many cheap freekicks away and I thought one or two corners were unecessary.

Plenty of good performances from our players and great to see the Bony / Sterling partnership work so well.

Kudos to Sagna for slotting in so well at left back.
