City vs Valencia

I think with regards to the formation we need milner in there instead of one of the defensive players , maybe barry . De jong is good at what he does and yaya is just quality , milner can provide more going forward and it would give the team a bit more balance as in the team we only had maybe silva tevez and ade worthy of making summit happen .

barry is a central midfielder not a defensive midfielder!

but i do agree barry and milner can be rotated but so can a few players concerning milner.

Still unsure about whether Ade is good enough, he seems to have lost the ability to hold the ball up. I would love to see a goalscorer like Dzeko or Torres in his place but it won't happen obviously.

What do you think?

still three weeks of the transfer window left m8. somthin might happen if we get the milner and balotelli deals tied up!

not sensational but hopefully that's the end of the 'no shape, no system' criticism. hopefully it's the beginning of us taking that stuff for granted.

I reckon this formation is difficult to play, but if we get it right, we're laughing. I hope it's dawning on people that everyone has to be able to play a bit now, everyone has to be able to contribute in attack, and everyone has to be able to cover the whole pitch, run up and down time after time.

We are very narrow in defence and midfield, which leads to us being pulled about a little too much for my liking, but it's worse for the opponent, we really stretched Valencia, they looked shattered long before the final whistle.

It'll be extremely difficult for an opponent to just sit back and try to soak us up, and very dangerous for them to move forward in numbers.

The speed of the fullbacks makes a big difference, not to mention both of them can deliver fantastic crosses, they will be a big weapon.

The midfielders are getting forward more and more, even De Jong was involved around their penalty area. I personally like the idea of Yaya, Milner and Barry as the three but there are plenty of workable combinations on paper. they haven't quite figured out who can go forward, when they can go forward and when they have to stay, but touch wood it will come.

And the strikers and Silva are pretty much free to combine in any way they like. 30 minutes of Tevez and Silva was a glimpse into the future, they're so comfortable in tight areas, defenders will be shitting themselves at the thought of having to face that. AJ wasn't far behind them. Add another genius like Balotelli to the mix...

SWP looks a bit ungainly on the ball by comparison but I think he is a perfect option to have on the bench. left backs often attack more and more as the game goes on, stick on a quick, orthodox right-winger and you can turn the situation to your advantage. I like him in the centre or the left as well, he can still use his pace to attack from any position on the pitch, and his shooting is always a threat.

Disappointed to see the long kick from the keeper is here to stay, but I guess we have to play the percentages and avoid getting bogged down in the back line.

Thoroughly enjoyed tonight. Decent 2-0 win, lots more chances - some fine saves from their keeper, some very watchable football with neat passes, 1-2s and skills from Kolarov and Johnno, bit of banter with the south stand and De Jong - which he took in very good humour, then a close encounter with a pitch invader to round off proceedings. £10 truly well spent. Got the new away shirt as well. For all the slagging off it got on here, fucking loads of people were buying them.

Great match for City in my opinion. Kolarov was playing very well and Boateng too.

Now, time to Spurs.

Very good game from tevez and silva, they played like they knew each other from an ulterior past or something.

Not impressed with ade who with his lazy act,is truly pissing me off,he can't win a header, strolls around like he is god given talent to humanity, number of times he tried to go on mazy runs but hit the ball too hard without anyone challenging him was laughable and shameful for a player with such an ego.

mancini clearly sees both bellamy and robinho as mark hughes trophy signings so he is going to get rid and have his own players but i would be sorry for him if he makes the mistake of allowing bellamy to join spurs as they would have a player capable of helping them keep top 4 this year.

Not impressed with adam johnson who i really don't understand why everyone talks so much about him,yes he doe some silky moves but most of the times he never even crosses the ball or beat his man with them moves,he was anonymous on the left and just average on the right, how can a player who is supposed to be this amazing player can only look good whenever he is at an advantage by cutting inside on his left against the left back.

Superb game by de jong who like craig epitomizes what a professional footballer should be,hard working and keeping it simple, would always start for me alongside bellers, robinho, silva, tevez, richards, kompany, boateng, kolarov, yaya.

Best players for us were Boateng and Johnson. OK performance.

OK performance? I thought the starting 11 looked so strong going forward and the back. I was in 111 and Kolorov was down ear us quite a bit. I thought he was incredible. Silva didn't have much to do (but looked great in the training yesterday by far and away the best I saw out there on Friday)
Boeting crosses and tackles great.
YAYA Superb again.
A side note and I am not being racist at all so will try to put it as PC as possible. We have quite a few big tall black lads playing and I can get confused who is who at times. Is that a bad thing to say? don't think so and I cannot be the only one.
I am looking forward to the season even more now.

its nice to see alot of the players understanding each other, tevez and silva look like they've played together for a while instead of 1 game, however what impressed me the most was that every time boatang came out of position at centre back in right back micah would slot in at centre back, i think its real benfit of playing 2 players who can play both right back and centre back together as they seem to understnad each other.

It was also great to see no matter how many players we changed we always kept the same shape.

Roll on the new season!!!!
