With four players leaving and only one in where they're actually needed the lack of signings is definitely worry. Particularly as rivals are strengthening there squads with good depth.
The squad is worryingly thin. Assume a centre half will come in as putting Beattie there means Walsh will be in a midfield three with Scott and Christiansen, but an injury/suspension to any of those means centre half will need to be filled and the support players are not of sufficient quality. The same of the forwards depth needed too, Stanway is there but can you really rely on a 16 year old for back and consistency? Chelsea look miles in front. Arsenal strengthened a lot. Surely more is needed naïve to go in with a squad of 18.

Two in, not one. Also, I suspect that you are going to see Melbourne City loan a couple of their players back to England as soon as their season ends next weekend.

Not really counting a back up keeper, and unsure why we need 3? Especially a back who has been number 1 at previous clubs and has always been relegated to the bench soon as someone better is signed. Notice when Bardsley was missing last season Brooks did well and barely conceded a goal. My concern was for the outfield squad.

The W-League is Australia is not really competitive and the quality isn't high. From the Melbourne squad I suggest that De Vanna will sign as a forward is needed, from reports I've listed to she did suggest she was do to sign a while back? possibly defender Rebekah Stott, although the record with NZ internationals is not exactly great. The rest of the squad made up of teenagers and very, very good loan signings.

Are Crummer and Luik not decent players??

I do see your point about us not upgrading the squad this window. Unfortunately the only place left to shop from is the US and, Corboz aside, we don't seem to be interested in adding talent from there.

Corboz came about due to certain links within the club, not sure they knew about her until she was pushed onto them, I don't particularly rate her TBH, considering Potter or Moore from B'ham would be a better option or Staniforth who was in the NW until her move to Sunderland.

Luik has been around a bit and at age 30 has only made 6 odd appearances for Australia. So that would be a no
Crummer is young but some Australian players don't travel well, might be in such a dominant team that the goal record looks good but in a more competitive division could struggle. You only have to look at Emily Gielnik who scored 20 in 38 in Aust but came to Liverpool and scored 1 in 9. As I said better UK talent around, but pickings are slim as we've not acted quick

What's this about Corboz being forced on the team? I can't think of why that might be given she was straight out of Uni. I watched all the (broadcast) games she played in last season and thought she looked good. She reminded me a bit of Eden Hazard with her direct dribbles and cuts inside. She's a bit on the petite side and has some adjusting to do but there is a very decent player there if we can bring it out.

It's hard to know about the Melbourne City players as none of there matches have been broadcast or streamed. I didn't realize Luik was in her 30's; I knew quite a few of their girls were 16-19 and that they have some very good loanees from the US. I didn't realize that those loanees were carrying the team though.

Not saying she was forced, but she could have friends in high places which may have done her a favour in getting noticed. Allegedly.

The loanees have helped particularly as they're full time professionals in their own right and coupling that with City enabling players to train up to twice a day, whereas the majority of the teams in the league will not do this (ATM). Full time pros v semi pro in terms of fitness will always win the day, believe that why they've done so well. The WSL is fair level with regards to this now, but now its about squad investment.

Interesting article about the league here: http://thewomensgame.com/2015/10/melbourne-city-challenges-the-status-quo/

Sounds like a sour grapes to me. She's came to city with plenty of legitimate plaudits from her Uni playing career and, since arriving has been scoring and creating assists in every match she's played in, which is more than enough to justify her place, imo.

I wonder how many off this thread went straight to google images.
I did and it was a joy...
