City's Global Fanbase

Sadly, needs must!

However, when saying goodbye at the cockpit door, if anyone is wearing anything Man U related, I always tell them they are "lucky I didn't see that before takeoff, or you wouldn't have come!" Have even been at the gate and pointed out someone wearing a United top, and said loudly, "That fella over there with that red top on needs to change his shirt if he wants to get on. I'm a Man City fan and I won't allow it!" Usually gets a laugh, but have seen a concerned face or two!

I think I already told this one, but I met Gordon Brown and his bodyguard in SFO and when I mentioned City, he told his son, Alistair, to turn around...City sweatshirt! Good lad!

;-)
Sooooo, if I do fly United I'll wear a City shirt and maybe the pilot will let me sit in the jump seat in the cockpit? Do they still have those?

If not, first class will do. :)

Unfortunately it's still long, long journey to the top. At least here in Bosnia. Maybe it's not a real representative sample though as people here always thought Dzeko was unfairly treated at City and he is like football deity here but since he went there's barely any interest for City unless they are spitting usual "money spending" shit when City buys someone. It's still Rags, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea from Premier League.

We need to win stuff and catch some real superstars in Messi/ronaldo range to break into elite in this fan thing. Messi and Ronaldo alone are killing it for Barcelona and Madrid, they were never as big as they are now and it's mostly because of them two. We need that kind of player badly.

I've coached my soccer-playing daughter's team for several years.

The rule is made very clear on Day 1 of practice: no Utd garb allowed. :)

Last summer my younger daughter did a "British Soccer Camp" program (save your money) and would wear her City shirts to camp. Many of the boy (I'm 40 a 19-21 year old is still a boy to me) coaches were red dippers.

They tried giving me stick about her City shirts. I surprised them by being a City fan for as long as they are old and reminding them the last time their club won anything of substance they were probably still pissing their pants on a regular basis.

The girl coaches weren't dippers, never said where they are from, sounded Midlands if I had to guess, and never gave my girl any trouble for loving City.

No Everton fans there because of Besic? If so, how are they reacting/justifying Everton opening up their wallet?

No. Besic is small fish, nobody carestoo much. Not even for Juventus and Pjanic is the second biggest player of this generation of bosnian football. Though Pjanic is usually shit in national team so he is not massively liked for that reason too. It was only Dzeko that counted. He is the top one and first after the war to make it and his eventual big success at City would be a good one for bragging rights in online football fights with Serbs and Croatians. At time he was in Manchester, City thread was on the top of Bosnian forums and there was at times irrational hate for Mancini, followed by Balo and Aguero. Now the thread is usually on 2nd or 3rd page, there is barely any interest.

Ok. I didn't know that. I did know Edin is a huge figure because during his time here many Bosnians populated the site from time to time.

A year or so ago we had a thread re: the former Yugoslavia and how they'd be one of the best teams in the world had the country never split.

And don't hold it against me but as a teen/young man I was convinced I had to marry Monica Seles, a Serb. :-)

I have a City scarf hanging up in my local, last summer two tourists walked in with Rag tops on. The waitress told them she couldn't serve them until she talked with me. She bluffed a phone call and told them I said it was OK but they weren't to hang out and should be gone by the time I got there. They didn't stay too long

haha, love it.
