Anyone have an idea about what "cultural convention" in the US is about?

"Please note, all matches in the US kick off around 10 minutes later than advertised due to the cultural convention of the country."
Most sporting events in the US start the broadcast on the hour with a short pregame discussion and then kickoff or tip off. Guessing with these matches it'll be that, a commercial and then kickoff.

Your explanation is right but it's a shit cultural convention and we should get rid of it
It's also true that sporting events are not built around tv windows in the same way football is. So an NFL game could run 3 hours to 3:30 or longer with overtime. College games can go 4 hours. Baseball has no timing mechanism. If you've grown up with it, you kind of just accept it and sometimes appreciate more than a fixed 90 plus stoppage time.
