The Spanish authorities are conducted raids across Catalunya and have arrested a number of prominent Catalans as part of a drive to stop an independence vote they've declared illegal. Apparently the Catalans have threatened to unilaterally declare independence within 48 hours of a 'Yes' vote.

Should we be sending the SAS in to rescue Messi?

That's a good call I think we should seriously consider it :)

Would Catalan remain part of the EU if they gained independence? How many Catalans want it is it a big number?

Thats a question no one can answer.
It would all depend if the rest of the EU wanted them and / or the rump Spanish state in the EU. If the rump Spanish state objected to catalonia in the EU, then it would be who the other members of the EU wanted more Catalonia or the rump Spanish state.

Maybe the Blazing squad

When Scotland were about the vote the EU said they'd be kicked out of the EU if they were independent of the UK. This is something I dislike greatly about the EU. They influence decisions that people should be able to make by themselves.

What about the French side of the Catalonian divide, the area around Perpignan and westward are Catalan as well. Can't see the French letting that area slide....
