Civil war in Spain?

Yeah...
Remedios Varo (1908-63) was a Surrealistic painter and anarchist from Spain. She fled to Paris in Spanish Civil War.
Spain post Franco has become an untenable country. It would have fallen apart already in the civil war, had it not been for Franco.

Spain was a perfectly capable young republic though until Franco, one of the biggest cunts europe has ever had, friend to hitler and mussolini ruined it, the falangista and it's darling football club Real Madrid can all get fucked.

His oppression of the opposition, attitudes to women, suppression of the diversity of the different spanish regions have helped such strong national identities to stay strong

Real Madrid was subsidised by the King, ie; Spanish state for years. One of my bucket list wishes is for City to twat the bastards in a CL final.

Been watching a great documentary on PBS on SKY 534 about Scots who went out to Spain to fight for the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War - interviews amassed over a decade with surviving Brigadistas before they died - excellent description of how the war was seen as a political statement as much as an act of war. Great insight - was interested because my great uncle was a Brigadista and refused to fight in WW2 when he got back as he said WW2 was a capitalist war fought in preservation of capitalism and capitalist aims.
Did your Great Uncle run from the battlefield at Teruel along with the rest of the international brigade after the Falangists and Carlists gave them a fucking good seeing to, if ever there was a myth about a fighting force then this bunch of international socialist shysters take the biscuit, they were fucking useless and were defeated in nearly every action they took part in, the Falangists were queing up to fight them and fuck the wankers right out of Spain which they eventually did

Democracy and peace continues in Europe!

Now I'm confused, whose side will the EU army be on if it kicks off?
The EU will need someone to step forward and condemn any violence from both sides. It's been done before by a couple of people to my knowledge.

Yet a returning English member, was instrumental in the creation of the home guard, A few joined the fledgling SAS and RAF, also it was the Italians and Luthwaffer that decimated the International bridage as ourselves and France (along with the rest of non facist europe) let them, even allowing them to fly over gibraltar.

If it wasn't for the massive bribes to Spanish generals that Churchil signed off on the falanganista would have supported hitler and we would have probably lost gibraltar, malta and north africa, speculation but franco was no friend of ours

Not saying Franco was no friend of ours he wasn't, but what Franco was, and he was passionate about was he was a friend and patriot to his own country Spain and rightly so
He did not want a Soviet/ Communist takeover of Spain which Stalin was trying to do through his puppet communists on the Iberian peninsular, the international brigade was part of that plan, set up by Maurice Thorez a NKVD agent with it's base in Paris and a network to smuggle people over the mountains into Spain, the only trouble was they were well out of their depth when it came to the actual fighting against the fervently patriotic Spaiards of the Falangists and Carlists who regarded them as international socialist scum and basically used them as target practice
They deserted in their thousands or were routinely slaughtered on the battlefield as their tactics were from the Napoleonic wars, in the end the Republic regulars refused to be posted anywhere near them as they made easy targets, they were gradually withdrawn and kept in reserve as their recruits dried up and nobody wanted to risk their lives for a lost Communist cause
They were eventually given a propaganda inspired parade through Barcelona then told to pack their towels and suncream and fuck off out of Spain before Francos forces really went to town on them and slaughtered them to a man, in short one of the worse fighting forces ever assembled

Putting the international brigage to one side, on the franco front, he was no friend or patriot, he was a traitor to a democratically elected government, along with his co conspiritors and no patriot to the millions of spanish, catalan, basque, etc he oppressed and murdered.
Yes the republic had problems, as a new and fledgling democracy, but a coup is a coup and the backwards thinking falaganistas with their belief in the will of the catholic church and monarch was regressive even in the 30's. and any man who was an inspiration to Pinochet is a **** in my book.
