Clarkson. Finished?

What a stupid fucking comment. Yes, why shouldn't he be able to say what he wants? Maybe because his "opinion piece" was nothing more than a vicious attack on a woman that has done nothing to warrant the hate she is receiving. There was nothing measured about it, no articulation as to why he hates someone, a young woman at that, on a "cellular level"; which normalises this behaviour for the ill-informed in this country to repeat and only serves to exacerbate hate and division. A gross, outdated misogynist spouts filth in a national newspaper, but it's ok because we should be able to say what we want.

"Teenage girls who are victims of cyber bullying need to just chin up and accept it, we can say what we want in this country."

Seriously were you weeping when you wrote that?

Always the same. Conflating the point. Again and again. What the fuck does this have to to do with teenage girls? what about the teenage girls that hate Meghan Markle?

And yet when I generalise about it being satire you roundly condemn

Hello magazine must be flying off the shelves with this amount of hyperbole, it's like the mini romance novels never died out.

Lol

And that's what it's all about.. It sells! People need to put some thought into what and who they are trying to defend.

Not sure there's anything else to add to the subject, surely everything has been said on both sides now and folk should be getting on with enjoying Xmas and not getting in a tizz over a daft bloke and a couple of multimillionaires.

C'mon mate, it's you who had nothing to add. I don't care about either Clarkson or Markle but I care about the overreaction

My cyber bullying analogy was referencing your point about being able to say "what you want". By that logic, a man can go online and say what he wants about a woman because he hates them. Without any foundation or excusable reason, he just hates them so it's fair game. Free speech shouldn't, and thankfully doesn't work like that. It's not a soapbox that gives the speaker boundless scope to say what they want; that's how prejucides and discrimination foster. There are caveats and boundaries. Clarkson's article overstepped, hugely, those boundaries.

The hate directed towards Meghan Markle is is inexcusable and agendised. That it's driven by middle-aged men makes it even more shameful, in my opinion.

You crack on mate, it's a circular argument/conversation now so not sure there is anything else to add.

Last post on the matter. I'd possibly have been with you 100 percent a few years ago, but the hate spouted by say, the democrats to the right is applauded and the same going the other way is called out. If this article was about someone on the Right, what would you do?

If a thread existed, whereby someone on the right had been abused in the same way Meghan Markle was, and continues to be abused, then yes, of course I would call the perpetrator out. And I'm willing to bet many on here would do the same. This shouldn't be about left wing or right wing though, especially when you can consider the woman in question has no strong political affiliations anyway. I disagree with certain people on this forum on manifold topics, as I'm sure you do, but I would never stoop to saying I hate them on a cellular level.

Like you say, enough has been said on the subject now so I'm going to leave it there. Have a good Christmas.

Fair enough. She does have political affiliations tho, it's a search away. Merry xmas.

I like him and I’ve always enjoyed Top Gear and his various other shows.

Never read his newspaper columns though and from what I’ve heard this Sun article went way too far.

Not clamouring for him to be “cancelled” though, as they say these days.

It did go too far, but what puzzles me is: why did they just print it? Did the editor not realise it was crossing a line and go back to Clarkson and tell him so?

I suppose this is why the Sun has apologised as the paper has to take some responsibility for this.
