Clarkson Suspended by BBC

I know that this is a heavily popular show worldwide, watched by hundreds of millions of people, but Im so self important that I believe any entertainment that isn't personally to my taste should be immediately scrapped. I understand that entertainment is subjective but my tastes coincidentally happen to be correct

As a licence fee payer I do believe I have the right to express an opinion as to how my money is spent.

LOL every license fee payer does. It's swings and roundabouts, I don't like the left wing slant that BBC news takes so I choose not to watch it.

Which is fair enough.

Damocles was suggesting that anyone with an opinion contrary to the populace should be ridiculed.

Then so does everyone else and given its popularity, Clarkson should be reinstated and Top Gear should get another 5 seasons.

Will of the people and all that

Can't stand Top Gear, can't stand Richard Hammond and I don't really have any affection for Clarkson (although I like James May and some of the programmes he makes).

The solution? I just don't watch it. Simple. There's a shit load of channels and on-demand services if I prefer to watch something else on a Sunday evening.

The way I see it is that Top Gear rakes in bucket loads of money for the BBC and helps them to make the less 'popular' programmes that I do like. So if tolerating couple of childish, boorish, slightly racist men means that I get to watch Pointless, Adam Curtis documentaries and the FA Cup, then it's a small price to pay.

If he's actually punched someone the BBC's hands are tied surely? He has to go.

Not necessarily :)

Nice pay rise and a cushy new position for whoever he punched and reinstate Clarkson, everyone is happy bar Chabal.

If you give someone a final warning, after they repeatedly say racist things, then they go and hit someone, you really have no choice but to get rid. If they don't, then how do they control him at all? He clearly already thinks he can do whatever he wants as it is, but if you let him off for this then it's just letting him know that he's bullet proof. I'm pretty surprised he's survived this long, most people don't survive one racist comment, yet alone a string of them

Clarkson is denying it. Not saying he's right but needs to be explored properly.

15 pages discussion and a petition (!) about an incident no one on here has the slightest idea of what happened.

160,000 people have signed an online petition to get him reinstated
with over 100,000 they can have it debated in parliament

which goes to show the complete fuckwittery that is the 'online petition'

The petition requires an MP to present it before the Back Bench Business Committee, if there isn't then it will not progress. Not sure if any MP will back this petition...

If there is an MP who backs the petition and presents it before the committee there is still a futher couple of stages. Not sure what the conversion rate is.

As it is allegedly and hasn't been investigated why are people signing a petition to have him reinstated when, if he has done it then he should be dismissed. If he hasn't done it then he will be reinstated anyway surely? So why are people jumping on the hysteria bandwagon and signing petitions? (Puzzled of Eccles)

As others have said, and I totally agree with them, if someone punched me at work then I would want them sacked.

I am now thinking of starting a petition to NOT have him reinstated!!!! In fact I think I might start one to have him sacked anyway for being such a perfect example of a sexist boring person!!!

I know a girl who worked on Top Gear for over 10 years. Clarkson is apparently how he appears - sexist, racist, homophobic arrogant nob. .

Of course he is, that is why he slips up so often and drops himself in it. It is not possible to pretend to be something you are not all the time, especially when your ego makes you think that everyone wants to listen to you. This is why he comes out with ludicrous soundbites like his offensive comments about public sector workers and oriental persons on bridges.
Poor thing getting offended by that.

I like him, top bloke.
