Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

I always felt Barton was a bit too full of himself. Seemed to big up Def Leppard very early on and championed them - but when they released "Hello America" and became the first of the NWOBHM bands to gain a foothold in the States, he changed and accused them of selling out (not realising you had to tour constantly in the States to break through nationally). That lead to them being greeted with cans and bottles at Reading in 1981 on their return to their homeland and they struggled to gain acceptance in the UK until Hysteria in 1987 - whilst of course they had been massive in the States since 83's Pyromania.

I've met Geoff Barton a few times; definitley not the full of himself kind. Don't remembering him accusing Leps of selling out and would be surprised given how much of a Kiss fan he is.

He did this article but sadly it costs to read it and check what he said:

Def Leppard: Def or Glory?

Interview by Geoff Barton, Sounds, 1 March 1980

THE LEPPARDS CAUGHT IN AN A'N'R INDUSTRY STRANGLEHOLD. WILL THEY BE THROTTLED? ASKS GEOFF BARTON ...

Any word on prices. I get the feeling these won't be cheap
Cheapest at the Hydro Glasgow, £100. Descent seats £150 - £200.
Bloody ridiculous. Really ridiculous. I saw him at his last concert tour a few years ago and felt it was pretty meh so I will not be investing at those prices. Better off seeing Steve Hackett at a third of theprice.

For anybody interested, there's a Genesis tribute act on at Manchester Academy 3, tomorrow night. They're called Visible Touch.
I saw them just before the first lockdown, recreating the 1980 DUKE tour, and they were superb. Very faithful to the songs, and the singer even sounds Collinsesque. Musicianship is fantastic.

I'm hoping to go, but there's a train strike the following day, and I might be bollocksed for the last train home to Warrington. Just hoping it isn't cancelled
Hope you didn't miss it mate, they were excellent, me and Mrs L thoroughly enjoyed it, stayed overnight in town and got totally dicked by train companies on way home Saturday morning. Back to VT, only Genesis snobs could turn their noses up at these guys, musicianship of the highest order and the lead guy knows how to work a crowd (albeit small) played some obscure stuff too, great performance

Better off seeing top notch tributes (lees wrinkles - usually) Visible Touch case in point

New Genesis book out in March for those interested.
“Genesis is one of the most …”
Are

Tbh, if it’s yet another book on the band it needs a fresh approach. I’m not sure what can be added to their story (unless the book has new exclusive Gabriel or Hackett interviews), so something based around the songs & music, both studio and live would be a decent option I reckon.

I did miss it.
Train strikes, so I bottled it.
Luckily enough, they're playing in Wigan on the 26th. I'll have to dig out my passport. Trains better not be on strike, then
