Clattenburg (Update p59 - not selected next weekend)

If all teams did that who would ref games? I dont think refs are corrupt or biased....the game is simply too fast and every decision is subject to tv pundit analysis.....but papers love it all as stories write themselves in our 24 hr media circus.

The argument that this is down to incompetence or lack of resources (to accurately make decisions) on the official's part begins to break down for me in games like Sunday when there is no relatively even discrepancy. Referees are going to make a lot of mistakes for as long as they're expected to rely entirely on human judgement; but when every big decision, some of which aren't even 50/50, goes in favour of one side in particular - as a matter of averages there is something wrong.

Consider this in the context of the Liverpool game previous, and all the incidents before that and ask yourself; when exactly was the last time United was royally fucked (and I mean fucked over) by an abysmal referee performance? Sure, they've lost games to offside goals and had rightful penalties denied like any other team. But when was the last time they were on the wrong end of a truly scandalous performance, when they seem to be the benefactor of so many so consistently?

On that basis i cant think of one west ham game where the ref has ''royally fucked'' us over ...

The European champions and Premier League leaders lodged an official complaint against Clattenburg following the weekend's controversial clash at Stamford Bridge by what they claim were racist and xenophobic comments made by the official towards two of their players, Mata and John Obi Mikel.

Chelsea's complaint is that Mikel was the victim of a racist comment, while Spain midfielder Mata was allegedly called a "Spanish t**t" by Clattenburg.

The FA announced on Monday that it would be conducting an official investigation, while the Metropolitan Police also confirmed they have received a complaint.

The Professional Game Match Officials organisation has confirmed that Clattenburg will not officiate a match this weekend stating, "that with any football match the focus should not be on the officials but on the players and the game itself"

But Romeu, one of four Spanish players in the Chelsea squad along with Mata, Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta, said that neither he nor any of his compatriots heard Clattenburg say anything untoward.

The Sun quoted the former Barcelona midfielder as telling Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: "Neither Juan nor Fernando told me they heard it because from what I have understood they didn't hear anything.

"It was someone else who heard it, but not directly at them. It was another player who heard it and that is what they told me.

"I didn't hear anything as I left quickly to go home but after talking to Juan he told me there was some problem and he had to stay.

"I only know Chelsea made a complaint and I think there could really be a problem if what Chelsea players say happened really happened."

Oriol, who was an unused substitute for the match in which Chelsea had Torres and Branislav Ivanovic sent off and lost to a controversial goal from Javier Hernandez, added: "If there was really a racist comment or something said against a Spanish player this will be serious.

"We know in this country people are very vigilant about these issues."

No matter the rights or wrongs of clattenburgs decisions on Sunday, I totally agree with this point, and it should apply to all referee's.

If they want to be the centre of attention, then they simply should not be referees.

Clattenburg, and Mike Jones the guy who was 4th official, do this every match for me, almost never does the official go unnoticed when they are in charge.

for me the interesting thing is going to be the inappropriate behaviour allegation, i cant wait to see how his fellow referees view this. if he gets banned for foul language then i am sure that they could kick up a real shit storm given what they put up with.

How would the FA respond if the ref's suddenly sent off every player who told them to fuck off. ( i'm looking at you Rooney & Scholes). I'm sure if they all got together and decided to send players off for foul and abusive ( inappropriate ) language then you could easily see 20 - 30 premier players sent off in one weekend.

Now this would be be piss funny and how the hell would the FA deal with that.

I remember one where he saved you. The FA Cup game we played against you at your place a few seasons ago? The unlamented Rob Styles was the ref and failed to give us two absolutely nailed-on penalties. One was Anton Ferdinand on Vassell and I can't remember the other. David Sullivan probably has a few Page 3 girls waiting in the refs bath after the game.
