Clattenburg (Update p59 - not selected next weekend)

In an ideal world he'll get sacked then whistle blow on the whole fucking lot of them.

Are refs' in a Union?

If so i wonder how strong it is, as if they are backing Clattenburg and he does get the sack I can see them strike back with foul and abusive language from players,

There's plenty of it we see it (and hear it a lot) clear as day and i'm betting it's in the rule book that players should be booked for it etc. So refs' will just turn around and start booking players for it. It happens in Rugby so some good might come out of this debacle.

Yes they are in the Prospect union. I was in it for years under the latest, and many previous guises. I left about 4 years agao when they managed to negotiate (as part of a general pay rise) a cut of about 6% per year for me, and then recomended that I except it.

Utterly useless union in my opinion, they'll defend him unless it gets tough.

A ref once pulled me up for foul and abusive language, the next time we had him he called me a "a fucking idiot" I pulled him up, I said you can't say that, that's foul and abusive language, he wasn't best pleased. I was right though, he booked me last time the he comes out with that. Plain wrong. Another ref once came over before kick off and said "shall I book you now to save time". That's just wrong. Bent fucks.

for me the interesting thing is going to be the inappropriate behaviour allegation, i cant wait to see how his fellow referees view this. if he gets banned for foul language then i am sure that they could kick up a real shit storm given what they put up with.

How would the FA respond if the ref's suddenly sent off every player who told them to fuck off. ( i'm looking at you Rooney & Scholes). I'm sure if they all got together and decided to send players off for foul and abusive ( inappropriate ) language then you could easily see 20 - 30 premier players sent off in one weekend.

Now this would be be piss funny and how the hell would the FA deal with that.

But surely it’s their choice to let Shrek get away with it, game after game?
Most weekends there are Prem players booked for dissent, but he has 2 yellows in a season and a half, yet every time you see him, he’s in the face of the officials, screaming at them.
Why do other players get booked but he doesn’t?

As much as I don't like some refs, Clattenburg included, the amount of abuse they take off some players means I don't have a problem if they give a bit back and tell them to shut the fuck up or words to that effect - providing the words aren't of the same or similar ilk to what Clattenburg is alleged to have used on Sunday of course.

Ideally though, I agree that they should be booking everyone that shows dissent rather than only booking certain players and letting others get off with it. A blanket clampdown would see most of the abuse directed at refs disappear almost overnight.

It's strange how differently, depending on the level of football, refs appear to deal with this kind of behaviour. Back in 2008 I went to see the second leg of our FA Youth Cup semi-final against Sunderland at Eastlands. Sunderland scored but the linesman's flag went up and it was chalked off. 3 or 4 Sunderland players immediately ran over to the linesman to hound him about the decision but their protestations were cut short when the referee came straight over and booked every single one of them without hesitation. And that's how it should be at every level.

Good grief - so even Sunday League pub refs are bent too?
I had no idea the problem of corruption ran so deep.
You should have showed him you mod badge and threatened him with a permaban or a week on the Transfer Forum.
Let's be honest - virtually all players have sworn at a referee at some point, and if you made it a sending-off offence you would end up with two goalies playing kick-and-rush in most games.
It's a bit like pushing and pulling in the box - it happens at every corner kick in every game, yet how often do you see a penalty given?
The precise rules of the game are never applied to the letter, otherwise either you wouldn't have a game,or else it would be stopping and starting every ten seconds,so referees have to use their discretion, hence decisions that can be interpreted as either weak refereeing, fussy refereeing,or letting-the-game-flow refereeing.
I know some of them fuck up on an epic scale on occasion, but it is a pretty thankless task,as you can be damned if you do,damned if you don't,and whatever you decide will piss one set of fans off.

To be fair, having gone to a good school and as such, played rugby, I have never sworn at refs when playing football.
