I don't think this argument is an age thing. It's to do with the type of people who go to the games.
Some people want to come with their arms folded and wait to be entertained. Others (including myself) are much more pro-active and try to get an atmosphere going and support the lads and hopefully spur them on to a win. For me I can't stand it when you are at the game and the only time you hear from people is when we're losing and their moaning. I see it is as part of my role as a match going fan to actively get behind the lads particularly when they need it most.
With regards to the United songs, its just a bit of irony. We sing it because we have won something and we are most definitely not small. I do concede however that some times the song may not be appropriate e.g. in Munich when we're losing but generally there's nothing wrong with it.
