Clive Allen

He became a better player with every game he didn’t play at City.

I’ve nothing against him. Seems a decent enough bloke. But he was one of those strikers, Tony Cottee was another in that era, who always gave me the impression they’d rather score in a defeat than not score in a victory.

Agree with the first part. Clive never came close to replicating his Spurs goalscoring feats for us and Heath was in purely for his better workrate, but because Heath continued to fail to score the clamour for Allen increasing.

He and Cottee were both very good strikers though.

I think even at my age I would be better than Adrian Heath !!!

I might be wrong cause am old too , but am sure he scored 1 in the 32 ( Everton August time 1 0 ) and Clive Allen was sun week in week out , fuck Reid fuck Ellis , they said Clive had no heart my mate told them he scored goals

Still baffling how he never got sniff under Howard Kendall and Peter Reid. Guy was still absolutely lethal finisher

Heath was missing far too many chances it negated other work he did.

Don't buy this oh HK was still bitter over linekar costing Everton double in 86 he never went with out and out strikers again. Well Clive was better footballer than Gary linekar

Well Kendal was heading to Barca with Gary in 86 till El Tel changed mind. Couldn't have seen him as that much of a liability ha

Ive told this story before but ..

My dad , back during that time, was a mover n a shaker at haydock races and would run shoulders in the posh bits with a lot of the footballers in the day (no he wasnt a waiter ;))

Anyway, he asked peter reid once why he doesnt play Allen. Reid just thumped his heart with his fist and said with a snarl ,”hes none o’ that”

Sums Reids coaching qualities up that
