Clocks go back sunday october 27th (Europe)

Had this effing manflu all week so brain is scrambled - earlier when I parked my car I thought " get ahead of the game and adjust the clock for the next 6 months" - so I moved it forward an hour. Wife has just said " daft **** should be back an hour" so now I am 2 hours out when I go in the car tomorrow ............. brain is fucked
The politics forum ain't a part-time job mate. Someone's got to keep it going.
Life has it's sacrifices.

She clearly married beneath herself!

No; he was right. Where, for example, it starts getting dark at 5pm today, it starts at 4pm tomorrow. But it gets bright earlier in the morning. But very few kids walk home now, and certainly not alone.
Apologies @Stephen230
I thought it was a question about what would happen if we kept BST all year - which is what I would like. My fault for dipping in and out of the thread!

Hey, no problem mate. I’m as confused as anyone about what we’re talking about.

I usually only even realise the clocks have changed in October because there’s a week where most of the NFL games kick off at 5pm instead of 6.

GMT. Why ‘mean’?
The earth and the solar system are not clockwork, so there are wobbles and variations. True noon at the Greenwich Meridian can vary by up to 45 minutes, so the clock time is an average, hence ‘Mean’.

Spot on. They should just leave it at BST all year round. As I said earlier in the thread, I see no benefit in changing the time now, then changing it back at the end of march.
It’d still be dark at 10am in Scotland through the Winter if we did that, 9.30am in Northern England.

^^ it’s not as beneficial for people who work outdoors and rely on daylight. They have to start work later and finish later.

Granted that’s not loads of occupations like.

I’m not sure your conclusion is correct. People in those types of roles can start and finish when they need to in the main because their roles aren’t dependent on the wider timetable of the day, whereas people who work in schools, offices, catering etc have to work much more in relation to those around them and who they come into contact with, as their roles are much more interactive with others. They cannot work in purdah, whereas those that work outside generally can. I understand for agricultural workers (for example) there may be such things as childcare issues, but that applies to any worker in theory, but ultimately people who work outside can work around the available hours of daylight irrespective of what human construct is imposed upon that period.

As others have said, would prefer another hour at the end of daylight, and lose an hour in the morning.
