Club Badge (merged)

I don't mean any disrespect to any blues anywhere, as long as they can appreciate that City fans who have been going for years through thick and thin and know the City of Manchester itself, have more of a right than them.

On social media this week I saw a City "fan" from, let's just say another continent, telling a City fan of 30 years from Denton, he knows "fuck all" and should "keep his mouth shut" over the badge discussion.

If I'd latched onto a NFL team and they had a similar thing going on, I'd be embarrassed to even pass opinion on their local news posts on social media.

Id question if that fan was from another continent or much closer to home ;-)

I call bollocks on that one.

I actually quite like this, any chance someone could do a 'better' version of this design but take the mcfc out and bring the river and ship closer together?

The ship represents trade bud. I don't think geographically it matters where fans come from do you? I'm of the view the more the merrier. I think City is about building bridges. ..not excluding fans because they are new, foreign, haven't bought 20 years season tickets or similar. Who's to say those fans won't become that? Bit of a generalisation to suggest foreign fans didn't want a change. Anyway City voice and Cityzens was done online so im sure it was done case by case. Not saying your points or views are less valid...but you want City to grow right? When you go on holiday would you like to chat with foreign blues?

Very true, at the end of the day the more fans we have the more revenue the club will make long term(thats without match tickets... think TV rights, more coverage, merchandise, shirt sales, more sponsors wanting in) and then we can tell all those naysayers who think we don't generate our own wealth to shove it whilst still buying the very best players for our club. I actually quite like hearing from fans from other countries anyway, that global city series CityTV did with Will Greenwood was quality.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for more fans from whereever, certainly in agreement with the more the merrier, I just got a bit peeved off when I was reading the Facebook comments from them. It just seemed a lot failed to understand why the more long term City fans wanted the rose badge back and one or two threw insults at the City fan for suggesting it. One blue posted the coat of arms and they shot him down. The ignorance just really annoyed me.

I was told it was trade but then I took my dad on the tour for his bday and they said it was from the ship canal.

Can we change our motto to something that reflects our international vibe? Maybe the below...

为什么总是我?[Why always me? in Chinese...] It has a touch of Typical City and pride in there... as well as drawing on our international fanbase.

Can we throw the below on the badge? I know NIke shirts bobble and thread quite well so you end up with the below anyway.

In all seriousness... the ship, Lancashire rose, bees, MCFC initials or in full format [Manchester City Football Club], the 3 rivers would be all I ask.

The ship predates the ship canal. As I said in the talks and on the radio the ship does represent Manchester's trading links and it is believed (though not conclusive) that it points the way it does because Manchester's main trading partner was America (Cotton). That last bit about direction may or may not be 100% but it is 100% that it does not represent the ship canal as it predated the ship canal by decades.

I know most fans have a good grasp of our heritage but if a tour guide can get this wrong then it's understandable that others do. This was one of the reasons why it was important for everyone to participate in the consultation because there are misconceptions about almost every element (I listed quite a few of them way back on this thread). FCUM claim their ship represents the ship canal - which it is up to them of course - but that's not what the Manchester ship represents. It was a way of showing trading links. Had we created the badge today maybe the ship would be a plane and maybe it'd point towards Europe, the Middle East or the Far East.

@Ric following on from the chat about a vote the other week, I think it's now possible to create a shortlist. Not everyone will have their first choice included, but I've tried to select 5 that represent the views of the majority of posters on here.

We know it's going to be round, so I've included 5 round badges, 2 with eagles, 2 with three river shields, and one with a rose.

Everyone has their own ideas on trim and colour scheme, as reflected in Gav's post last week that had 30 different designs on. Perhaps everyone's first choice is not one of these options, but I hope there is enough variety that people can vote on the core design they like best, even if they would make alterations in a perfect world.

a plane? with etihad on..................you're on to something there Gary
Simple - had we redesigned in the early 80s we could've had a plane pointing towards the east, a yellow tiled effect to represent the Arndale and instead of the Rose representing Lancs a great big yellow G with a TV aerial out the top on a blue background representing Granadaland.

For today the round badge could represent the M60, a Metrolink tram pointing towards AUL could be at the top and, to know we're talking about Manchester, we could have a cloud with rain coming from it in the bottom section.

I'd love to do talks in 50 years on those badges. By then of course people would say the plane represented Etihad, the tiles a long forgotten match sponsorship with Kitchens Direct and the Granada G was a religious cult that sat down every Mon & Wed at 7.30 to watch their Mancunian religious prog led by Hilda & Stan. The modern version they'd be saying the cloud represented the rainy days of the 1990s before City were rescued by Sir Paul Dickov, the tram would be a nod to Manchester's favourite stag day venue (!) and the M60 circle was actually based on the Jackie Onassis reservoir in Central Park because it'd been a cynical ploy to get a bit of NY on the City badge.
