Club Brugge (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Thanjs - that does look definitive, direct from EUFA.com.
Also "From the knockout phase play-offs onwards, the tournament is a bracket. The teams that finish the league phase between ninth and 16th will be seeded for the first draw of the knockout phase and will face a team placed 17th to 24th"full_ko_bracket_20250130002321.webp

Feeling better already... C'mon, you Blues!

Lucky in the 1st half - could have been a lot worse. Much better in tge 2nd. Nunes needs to go - he makes too many mistakes.

You`re not kidding argyle. Way, way over the top negativity and yes that first half wasn`t the best and Pep recognised that and took the necessary steps to change it.
Some people are never satisfied, but its a forum and they have the right to disagree, but fuck me some of `em are clueless at times.
‘At times’?

You’re being generous

I've stopped replying to them they are far too kneejerk and come over as ungrateful and far too entitled. Half time last night some posters were suggesting that it was best that Pep leave the club. Be very careful what you wish for.
I find it hilarious that many posters believe the only way to beat the low block is to hold the ball and bring them out so you can then play it over the top into space. If only a footballing genius like Pep had thought of that!!

I saw that in the Times, I think, but it is all clear as mud. I emailed uefa but got no reply. But see post #501 above.
Just looking at Peps after match interview and I quote
" ... but in two weeks we have a few players back, the new signings back, so hopefully we can do two good games.
Lets hope he correct in his assumption ref the new signings.

I despair at time. Part of the reason why I only attend a handful of games a season is because of the inane comments and attitude of fans. We paly in the toughest league and European competitions where most teams are pretty decent.

Obviously we are not the same as we were two years ago, but a 20 match unbeaten run shows that Bruge are no mugs.

First half I thought we we played with patience against a decent team. Until we get fresh legs in midfield and our main defenders back, we will be exposed to counter attacks. No point in continually berating players that are asked to play out of position. The plan to keep it tight, probe and hopefully open them up played to the strengths of who was available.

Maybe Sav could have started. Trying to keep it tight in the first half made sense to me and enabled him to be more impactful. Second half obviously much better.

The club is clearly rebuilding. To keep moaning while that is in progress is pointless.

There was also a tiring defence for Savio to exploit due to the amount of time without the ball Brugge had to endure in the first half.

Thought their support was really poor, didnt even sell out.
Stood right next to them, when they sang your support is shit I just pointed to the rows of empty seats behind them. Soon went quiet.

Went to watch Gent before we played Brugge in 2021 and they were much better fan wise.

Good side Brugge though, will be a problem for whoever they play in the next round.

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but as my wife and I were walking behind the south stand last night after the match had finished everyone’s favourite tune was blaring out over the stadium sound system namely “You’ll Never Walk Alone”!

Good post that.
Made me completely rethink my appraisal of our performance last night.

Pep was asked in the press conference about how he feels about his team (15:30 mins) and said that his midfield is old and slow and name Kova, Gundogan and KDB but we are so grateful for what they have done. Yes we are but those days have gone.

There should have been a follow-up question...

'If your midfield is old and slow, why don't you play Macatee or Grealish? I might not work but KDB and Gundogan does not work any more.
Does he really not rate macatee, grealish, etc? Or is he so grateful to the old guard that he simply can’t drop them for his sheer loyalty to them. How can he see the problem? Admit the problem! but continue with it? It’s very strange.
