Club World Cup - Summer 2025

It is seen. as a jok due to the randomness of the participants, A Cup for the champions of each continent and then random teams based on fuck knows criteria Infantano jist made up because the 4 year gap makes it messy

By rights Inter Miami should not have been in it or Chelsea, bayern or benfica

if they wanted the frech, english, german, portuguese, spanish and italian teams.in it then the one who won the 23/24 seasons should have been there, but again makingit every 4 years makes that imposible.

The old set up of yearly competion im december was fine, this cash cow for fifa won't attract wide spread interest beyond people playing in it, I mean in the next one it could be liverpool and arsenal as English reps say, honestly will anyone here be bothered to watch it if so bar just to pass the time?

And of course if you are in it you want to win it, I would have loved us to win it, but I really have no intrerest in it since we went out.

"Will anyone here he bothered to watch it?"

Your point is very PL-centric. The rest of the world, maybe?

Do people watch the CL when their team isn't in it? I don't personally. You may not. But hundreds of millions globally do. What is the difference in watching a CWC when your team isn't in it?

And you say it's a cash cow for FIFA. Is the CL not a cash cow for UEFA? You don't have a problem with the CL? Why is that? And what do you think will happen to the cash FIFA generates from the CWC?

Moderators.

The continuation of this thread now that we're out of the Club World Cup seems to me, to be duplicative of the thread(s) in the General Football Forum. Please lock this thread otherwise posters will possibly need to repeat the exact same post in this thread and in the appropriate General Football Forum thread.

Of course it's premier league and la liga, budersliga etc centric my opinion as I am physically and emotionally invested in a team in it it, not just a global premier league fan who may like 3-4 teams and watch them.

Many people just love to watch football with no affiliation, including myself beyond supporting city, and I do watch other leagues, Seria A, La Liga, Bundersliga, the A league, and regional wise the Copa Libatories (spelt wrong) when its on.
I just have little respect for this beyond supporting us in it.

The same goes for the champions league which is also ridiculous as is the europa and conference, and a joke, when a team that finishes 4th can be european champions or a team in 17th get a champions league spot, When we are in it so I will support City, once we go out I couldn't give a fuck about it, I have long advocated the return of the old 3 comps of the european cup, uefa cup and cup winners cup, which were fairer, rewarded the winners of competitions and actually made sense.

Why are you are treating this football competition differently to other football competitions?

The naming of the Champions League is anomalous but that doesn't make the competition a joke. The Club World Cup sits at the pyramid of domestic, and regional 'Champions Leagues. Many fans have argued for player welfare and for a Summer of rest but clubs don't rest in the Summer. City played 4 games at the Club World Cup. Tomorrow, Man Utd and Liverpool return to pre-season training and City return on the 28th July. Man Utd will go on tour in a week. Over the Summer, they will play 7 games across the world.

City has meaning in respect to the wider football world. My interest drops when City get KO'd but after the initial disappointment, I get over it and watch other games. You learn something and football is a brilliant sport. Euro 2025 is low quality. I'm not watching that but PSG v Bayern was brilliant and I think is was one of the best games I have seen for a while. Aside from entertainment we need to know what level we need to be at.

Agree and in the case of the CWC…..

  • $1 billion prize money: This is divided into two categories: a participation pool and a sporting performance pool.

  • Solidarity program: An additional $250 million will be provided to clubs worldwide.

  • No FIFA profit: FIFA is committed to reinvesting all revenue back into the sport, with no profit retained from the tournament.
For once they have done the nice thing so nobody can moan about a cash grab.

Each to their own, I don't care about this competion beyond our participation I ain't stopping anyone else enjoying it

why do some people think everyone has to care about this competition considering we have plenty here who want us to bin off the league and FA Cup as soon a s possible so indifference to cup competitions is quite common

The winners of four of those leagues in 23/24 were there.

The criteria is also pretty clear - with just Inter Miami being plucked from the air. In Europe, even with the rules that you had a max of two clubs per country, you still had 11 of the top 14 ranked teams. Salzburg in 18th were the nearest to an outlier.

Liverpool were the only club in the top 10 to miss out (they were ranked 8th), and they didn't just miss out because Chelsea and City won the Champions League. The rankings were based on CL success across four years, and Liverpool were playing Europa League in 23/24, so would have been below Chelsea on that ranking too.

The success of the non-European clubs, suggests that the standard there was pretty high too.

I particularly like this competition for the sole reason that it gives us an opportunity to see us play teams we would never play otherwise. Other than that, it’s a meh competition

If think it could backfire on Fifa if the KSR teams then try to move to Uefa to play in the UCL, and a Uefa centric world league develops or another breakaway to challenge Fifa.

The whole tournament is a grubby cash grab.

PSG and Munich are two teams ideally suited for this competition as once finished can afford a long break before returning to the leisurely pursuit of one more domestic league title.
