Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer another great prospect he has impressed me over the last two years, he makes the game look easy he needs time but will make the grade, I hope its with us, we need a few more of our own, these lads will run through brick walls for our club, I hope Foden is not the only one to progress to the first team, we have a few more who could make it, I just hope it happens.

This kid simply HAS to be the eventual Mahrez replacement in our squad. No reason for him not to be. I’d keep hold of Mahrez for 2 more seasons so that Cole is ready to slot in.

This kid did impress me during his Carabao Cup appearance. Hopefully we don't block his progress by signing players we don't really need.

Sure, or we can just sell Mahrez now to add to funds to Haaland.

Then have Ferran and Cole battle it out for starting RW.

We could but I’m not sure if it’s still a little early for Palmer to make that step up? I think, like Delap (and Foden before him), he’ll get the slowly slowly catchee monkey approach. I don’t see him suddenly replacing Mahrez this summer, it would have to be more gradual. I feel if we sold Mahrez this summer, we’d just buy Grealish and Foden would play RW on rotation with the other options. By keeping Mahrez longer, it gives Palmer more time to be trusted to be the replacement.

Well he would be a backup RW to Ferran (and even Foden as you mentioned, but also Sterling).

So it's more like Ferran replaces Mahrez (and Ferran hasn't played much), and Palmer get's Ferran's old minutes.

If you keep Mahrez, then with Ferran, these 2 years he won't get any games, because you can't have 2 RWs pushing for the starting spot (add in Sterling and Foden), with Palmer on top of that. He'll get no minutes like that.

I agree with your premise of having him displace an older player in a few years though. Just think we have many who can play RW atleast competently, that adding Palmer in without removing is meaningless.

Everyone knows we are not replacing senior player straight with academy player. Even Foden had to bide his time and he is generational talent.

Bit over the top to say he MUST replace Mahrez, just because he plays well or scores good goal at U23 level.

IMO, academy players get far too much hype for too little.

Perfect example of this; When Foden was coming through all the attention were on Sancho and/or Diaz due to them being more flashy, even though they were much worse players.

Simply put, we ain't replacing former POTY of the PL with academy player unless he is literally next Foden.

That's absolute nonsense and a complete rewriting of history.

People who watched the academy games and discussed it on here always rated Phil as highly as Sancho and Dias. There's plenty of comments calling him the biggest talent in the academy at 15 on his old EDS thread and he was on t he bench for the CL as a 16 year old.
