Cole Palmer

He's definitely got something. He doesn't just rely on pace like a lot of young wide players. His footballing brain is excellent, his ability to feign a shot and beat a man is already up there with Mahrez and he is brilliant at turning his man as well. His performance against Sevilla was absolutely top class.

With the poor decision making in the final third last season I was surprised Pep kept using him. We've seen Phil dragged off or benched after just one poor decision but not only did Cole get opportunities he also featured in an attacking midfield role. Pep clearly rates him highly. He wanted to win the Super Cup desperately and he started Palmer. That was a clear message to say "stay at the club". Had we been a couple of goals up against Sheffield United he'd have come on as well.

There's a chance he can establish himself with us this season. I don't get why he'd go to Chelsea where he might play a bit more, but it's no certainty. We've got an extra competition compared to them for him to play in too.

I doubt the club thought we'd be getting offers at £35m though. If Chelsea do go up to £45m then we probably have to take it. We've just signed Doku who is a couple of weeks younger yet has 80 more first team appearances and 14 international caps to his name. We can enhance the team with that money and good wide players are plentiful at the moment. We've even got Ndala in our own academy who is an excellent prospect.

Agree with all of that pal. Hopefully he decides to stay and knuckle down as like you say the minutes will be there at points this season. No guarantee of playing the minutes he wants at Chelsea either, if they are the only suitors then I think he'll stay but Brighton, Wolves and West Ham are sniffing aswell and I reckon he can be a starter for all 3.

Much rather he stayed. Has the capacity to sit players on their derrière, which is always a treat, and we have no idea how long Doku will take to settle and learn the system. Palmer reminds me a lot of a young Waddle and a little of Le Tissier. They look unorthodox, ungainly even, but that unpredictability means they are capable of the extraordinary. Alas, I don’t think we have room for that, unless we are cruising against beaten sides, so he‘ll probably go.

Isn't good enough now or never will be? I hope we at least put a hefty buy back clause in
I think Palmer won't make it here coz there is not enough playing time for him to grow after City won the treble especially Doku is in the squad now, but I would be glad if I'm proved wrong. Adding a hefty buy back clause would be a good choice in case this lad is a later bloomer!

18 ! and still growing when did Foden become a regular? The fact he’s played in a few positions and been trusted to play the inverted full back by Pep should tell you something. His game intelligence probably makes him a better fit for us than he would be for a majority of teams.
Whether he kicks on and continues to progress is another question doubting his potential is just bonkers.

"Doubting his potential"?? I didn't say he was crap. I said he wouldn't be with us, long term.

At his age, sure he has potential. The one thing I've said is his playing style with contact. You've all danced around that.

That's funny to me.

I don't really give a shit what Palmer does as soon as he leaves City tbh. Weird to want him to succeed. This isn't a charity.

How many more times does Pep need to see Palmer in training or in a game? Hes been in this squad for two full seasons now. We cant just keep crying out for giving him a chance.

Don't think its weird to want him to do well. He is from pretty much the same place as me and I've followed him at City for years. Obviously I'd prefer he realised his potential in a blue shirt but if he leaves I'll be wishing him well in every game that isn't against City!

I think Palmer, doku and nunes probably all need to work with pep for a while before they are automatic names on the teamsheet.

Would rather Palmer stayed but if he goes he goes. I can't see the sense for him in going to Chelsea though, ambitious or naïve to think he'll get more playing time out of their bloated squad than our slimline one.

It’s not a popular opinion but Personally I am sick of us selling the promising academy graduates before giving them a real run in the side. Though I’d hate to see us lose, I hope if we do sell him to Chelsea, the lad rips us a new one when we face him as a way of sticking two fingers up to those that sold him. I know that’s what I’d be wanting to do.
I liked the reply for the beginning not the rips us a new one part.
