Mate, Phil Foden only started playing in his preferred No 10 position after we'd won the league last season.

He's been used as a LW, RW false 9, & has had to bide his time. He recently said he wants to play every game & has spoken to Pep about this, & was told to be patient.

After 5 years of steadily building himself up, & bedding himself in, his patience is finally paying off through Kev's misfortune.

Another two years of swapping & chopping with KDB & Bernardo will hopefully see Phil become our undisputed No 10, & KDB's homegrown successor.

Phil is so much more than a brilliant player! He's now the example of best practice for all EDS products coming through.

If you're good enough, you'll be kept around. If you're patient enough, your opportunity will come.

When you compare the performance numbers of 21 year olds Palmer & Doku, it's evident which one suits City's current level better.

If Palmer doesn't like less minutes & the increased competition, then Manchester City isn't the club for him.

£45m & the opportunity of a fresh start elsewhere is for the best all round imo... \0/

I get what you’re saying but I still think there’s a fundamental difference in the way Foden and Palmer have been nurtured.

Phil’s journey is the norm for a young central midfielder. Until he’s strong enough for the physicality of the position he’ll learn his trade out wide. It’s the same path De Bruyne, David Silva and Bernardo Silva took.

Palmer is a bit different in the sense that he’s not as versatile as Phil and seems to be a more specialist wide right Mahrezesque attacker. There’s no real reason why he couldn’t have been given a fair chance there over the past 2 seasons.

I also think the comparison of Palmer’s numbers to Doku’s is a bit unfair. Doku has played a lot more football and even his stats aren’t great. I wouldn’t at all have been surprised if Palmer pulled out numbers comparable to Eze and Paqueta if given a season on loan at Palace or Brighton.

It’s all ifs and buts though and Pep obviously knows best. He does seem to favour versatility in a player though. It’s obviously great for the team but maybe not so much for the player.

We are now a success story. We are not the same club that Steve Redmond could walk out of the reserve And straight into our first team.

If we were we would probably be mid-table with no chance of winning anything.

But we’ve also got one of the best academies in the whole world. The players coming through are miles better then the ones that came through in the 80s and 90s.

Why ? I was under the impression he was from a family of blues. I know some of his family from North Mcr that are blues. I know he's South side.

It’s well known he supported United as a kid, not that it really matters now although I do question wether a proper blue would give up on their city career this easily.

In the short term yes he has, but he's not going to develop in the long term as good a player at Chelsea as he would have at City.

Either way he's going to spend a lot of the upcoming season sat on the bench.

You may be right but he would very likely have spent more time on the bench if he’d stayed.

Like most people on here I am a little disappointed that a local lad, who is obviously highly talented, has been unable to make the breakthrough into our first team, but clearly Pep doesn’t think he’s quite at the level he wants so this is probably the right move for all parties.

I don’t know what Chelsea’s plans are for him, as their buying in the last year or so doesnt make a lot of sense, but I wonder if they are thinking about playing him in midfield, which is where I thought he should have played for us. He doesn’t look like a winger but Pep does seem to love sticking midfielders out on the wing.
