Cole Palmer

That’s kind of the point though - he could’ve easily made mega money sat on the bench at City while scooping up trophies.

He claimed he was desperate to play, and with this Chelsea side it’s just as likely that he gets replaced in January or next summer like Madueke who he has just replaced after 6 months
Poch is different, he will start running the squad soon and Palmer will benefit - good player and seems a good lad

Sometimes players leave for better opportunities or better pay or family decisions or for a preferred geographical location. It doesn't always have to be about some silly attitude problem or chip on the shoulder. This habit of tearing down players when they leave is becoming a thing here and I hate it.
Exactly, its embarrassing. I really liked Cole and for a top youngster he wanted to play, would be more upsetting if he didn't!!!! I do hate all this dismissive stuff when players leave...i mean look at Raz's contribution to us and sly digs he gets - ridiculous - they should all get a standard ovation for what they have done for our club when they were here,,,Raz, Zinky, Jesus..Palmer et al

Im genuinely sorry he's gone, technically he is very good, I hope he shines for you as he seems a decent lad - shame though letting a local lad slip away...

That's typically how I feel when we let a local lad leave, especially if I feel they're more good enough for our first team. I understand football is a very cutthroat business, but I feel there should be a space for a little sentiment too. I would much rather watch Lewis Hall and Tammy Abraham make mistakes and learn and grow than watch Cucurella and Havertz do the same, for example.

I like Cole but big shout to play anything other than a winger. Don't think he's massively versatile, better gliding past people than working in tight spaces. Might be worth a go in an easier game.

Granted it was just a 30 minutes but he looked pretty decent playing centrally. As it is, without our current injuries, I don't think we even have a choice but to chuck him in that #10 role.

Yes. Part of the problem is that you have plenty of good players but they may not necessarily be ideal for the system Pochettino favours nor the type of football he encourages. Could be a few teething problems and some churn of players yet.

Yeah, but a big part of Poch's reputation is how good he is working with and developing young players. Hopefully he shows that. I know people say we've spent a billion but we've spent a billion on a collection of U21 players. No matter how much money is spent on those players, they are still all inexperienced players who need time, patience and quality coaching to get the team to the level we expect.

And if they reach that level they’re likely to want a raise in pay and/or to move to other clubs. Maybe Boehly has found a new way of being successful but paying full freight for unfinished diamonds has not been a Prem business model and it largely ignores player power as an input. It’s like Chelsea think they can sign all these expensive young players now and force them to live up to their long contract terms and I think that’s a bit naive. If the players make it they’re going to be looking for better terms than they already have

That’s absolutely true. I think it’s been reported that most of them are on these incentivised contracts, so the better they performed, the better the team performs, the more bonuses they unlock in their contracts. So Mudryk’s base salary is said to be £97k but hypothetically, if he plays 40 games this season, scores 10 goals and helps Chelsea qualify for the CL, he could jump up to £150-200k, for example. In the event a player has reached a world class level and they come asking for a bigger contract, I’d imagine they would probably get it and it would be deserved.

Sensible if true, but don't tell the rags because they love dishing out £375,000 per week contracts to all and sundry.

Sancho says hi btw.
