Cole Palmer

Yes I agree, although I would like to see a few more players come through. I suppose to a certain extent having such an excellent, and top of the pile academy, is a fairly new experience so we will make a few mistakes in our management and in who we do and don't keep. Added to that there will always be players who want to leave.
On a side note I noticed your location is Lincoln, I was there for a short break a couple of months ago, it was a fantastic place to visit, loved it.
I live in uphill Lincoln, about half a mile from the cathedral It's not a bad place to live. It is not so nice this morning though. Sideways rain.

I'm struggling to see what it is we've missed about Cole Palmer. I don't think we'd have had any additional points to our tally by keeping him. Down the line we may lament this loss but it's far too premature to say that we did bad business. In any case, the player wanted to leave.

Losing Cole Palmer has not yet cost us anything. The biggest loss is clearly Ilkay Gundogan, compounded by injuries to Stones and De Bruyne. We've actually been magnificent to win a Treble, lose all those midfielders and still find ourselves top of the pile. The sale of Cole Palmer doesn't yet come into it.

Phil absolutely...one of the games best in that drifting position...Rico...going in the right direction, Bobb possibly could in a couple of years who knows...but since 2020...when we started doing well again in FAYC how many players have gone through the academy...1,000's and this is a top academy too with some of Europe's best youngsters. I would have thought we should have a better return tbf.. i don't know what the academy costs in £m's each year but i assume a portion is factored into FFP running costs?
You have to factor in how many have been successful elsewhere. There are city kids all over the country- & abroad. We’re the best team in the world so the bar is high to get into our team at a young age. But we produce great players that walk into other clubs & provide us with an income to make our academy self sufficient - & provide an income for the club.
Some won’t wait - ie Cole but we can’t satisfy everyone all of the time.

The way I see it is, we bought Torres for £21m, sold him for £50m + add ons because we had Palmer. Then we sold Palmer for another £45m + add ons and bought Doku for around £60m (depending on what you read).

So we've ended up with the best out of the three players and £15m up. Amazing business.

Palmer's getting hype because he's a great young player in an underperforming side. They'll see the best of him there as they're building their team around him. A bit of swagger/arrogance in a young player is fine but it's pretty obvious he doesn't have the humility and eagerness to go with it that other young players who thrive under Pep have. Great for him if he can be his best self at Chelsea, but we're not going to make space for someone to do that quickly if it's to detriment of a squad already performing at the highest level and with a great work ethic.

Both are valid paths to greatness for a player on a individual level, but a well run and cohesive team that wants to stay at the top can only really offer a young player the path that requires patience.

It's not much better in Bury but we don't have a stunning cathedral and a great castle. I stayed in the shadow of the cathedral, near the art college. Think I could happily live there!

Into the England squad this week :)

He's playing more than I thought he would and if I'm honest, doing a lot better than I thought he would so fair fucks to the kid!

Still think we did right at the time selling him for what we sold him for though.
