Cole Palmer

We let him go and I still wonder why, after the Arsenal and Sevilla game he was dropped to the bench against Newcastle. If he played then he would still be with us now, did anyone see our bench last night. Look at Lewis for example different positions and all that but he’s not at the same level as Cole and never will be unfortunately
Rico Lewis is special. Cole Palmer is not. Also much older

I still don‘t think so. Palmer is bang average.

Our biggest mistake was not outbidding Arses for Rice and paying him whatever it took to persuade him to leave London. If we’d used the £25m wasted on Kovacic as wages for Rice instead we’d be in a better position in the league than we are now. Money talks, he’d have come if we’d offered enough to him and his agent.

He’s not bang average at all. The club didn’t think that and wanted to keep him. Any youngster who’s getting in our first team squad isn’t average either

I wouldn’t say so, but by allowing Gundogan, Laporte and Mahrez to leave, added to the fact of knowing how suspect KDB groin problem was and that it may have needed surgery, all this without finding suitable / capable replacements. It’s probably wasn’t the best summer transfer window at City.

Special at what lol
Look I'm all for knee jerk reactions to this shit run of form but downplaying a 19 year old that has shown he can easily hang with a treble winning squad in multiple positions including in the centre of the pitch when the team actually functions is just mad.

Everybody expected Cole Palmer to kick on but he never really did for us, decent talent with an eye for goal that might do very well for Chelsea but already approaching an advanced age and even last year he only got thrown on the pitch when the games were already won and most of his cameos amounted to very little other than showcasing a decent technical level accompanied with a poor football brain. Most people thought we were robbing Chelsea of 50 million, that doesn't change just because he has been decent to fine for a completely garbage Chelsea side. If he went on loan to Brighton like he was supposed to and performed similiarily I doubt that would have been enough for people to be convinced he would make it here yet Brighton will very likely finish higher up in the table than the mess of a club he is currently a part of. We need a level from a first-team attacker that Cole Palmer for a few seasons now haven't been able to show he will get anywhere near.

If Rico will get to the level we need from him is certainly not set in stone, but he have at least shown that he is levels above most 18/19 years old

I agree on the Lewis points but will push back, politely, on Palmer. He is still only 21 (Lord help me if that is an advanced age!) and one need remember that he was unfortunate in that he picked up a foot injury in the second half of season 21/22 that prevented him from playing and he missed around 20 games. Similarly, it was always going to be difficult for young players to break in to the team in 22/23, as that was a side reaching its peak and Guardiola was intent on going all out with even fewer players (Jesus, Sterling, and Zinchenko had already left with grumbling over game time). Palmer is flourishing (Chelsea’s best player this season- to quote their commentator) because he is now getting game time and showing what he can do.
