Nope. Although he has had a longish run there. When at City you could easily see his balance..how he received the ball. Chin up " always' scanning and great technoque.... the physical side and management of game situations far easier to work on. Lewis has that but about 67% of the " guile" Palmer demonstrated AT City imo. Just a shame tbf we needed him this year and next!!You're basing this on his performances at Chelsea.
This is spot on academy players should be given a lot of leeway, a lot of time and opportunities as we invest in them for years. Culture has a big part . Palmer for example with us since 8..8 fkin years old and he's dismissed byHe stayed and fought for 3 seasons hanging around the first team, going into his 4th season “in” the first team he wanted to know he was gonna play regularly or go on loan. I can’t understand how City fans are convincing themselves that was unreasonable? McAtee did the same last season, insisted on going on loan to play and the club let him.
If the club and fans expect 18 year olds as good as Palmer to hang around on the promise of a couple of league cup games a season while we buy first team players in their position until they’re 22 then 90% of them will leave. Given only the best 2/3 of each year group are even good enough to be around the first team like that, we’re gonna get an academy graduate come through every 5 years at best.
When Palmer left I said it would be a very expensive mistake for the club but it would be worth it if they learned their lesson because we’ve got a lot of kids 15 and up who have as much talent but likely won’t stick around for years and years to get their chance.
Pep has a tendency to underrate academy players without experience, but he also doesn’t want them on loan, which is putting them in a catch 22. Whether it’s with Pep or after he’s gone, the club needs to find a better way of transitioning players from the academy to the first team if they want a core of academy grown players in the team as they’ve repeatedly said they do because it won’t happen with the current rate of one kid coming through every 5 years or so.
Spot on palYes indeed. As others have said I,m not convinced would have been a success in a pep team. But what I am impressed with is that ball control. Just watching a tall adroit player drop a shoulder and send a full back the wrong way the ball tied to his feet is wonderful to watch.
When he left Rodri on his knees in central midfield at Wembley, I just thought Wow,which I would have done if any oppennent had done knowing how superb a player our man is. As a low level footballer I'd hate to have to mark him it's a different thing entirely .....I am just impressed with players who score goals, lots of them with seemingly little effort, a mark of true class.often just one deft touch.
I try not go harp on about the City aspect, that's gone now,,but great footballing displays, imo, should always be acknowledged which I hope is what this thread becomes, as it will always a nod to the quality of our own youth development team.
In nearly 50 years of being a footy fan, it's rare I read about someone scoring 4 goals in a match . For a player to do it again, is unbelievable and worthy of praise. The Cole Palmer Thread is where that praise goes, imo.
And can I just say, I scored 4 goals in a match the last time I turned out 2 weeks back, and I'm still buzzing ,.....if the FoC club can celebrate at a low level, then I'm entitled to wax lyrical about a player doing it in the so called toughest best league in the world.
I love watching great players play the game.for I'll never be one of them.;)
I suppose its a lesson to us blues to cherrish academy lads a bit more like we have done sincec1960's ..sad that as a fan base we are not as supportive with local lads as we used to be. Its to our detriment too... some of the best are now wondering over to the 'dark side' to 'that lot' ..fans have a role in that! This fucking thread just keeps going round and round in circles.
He's gone ffs !
Like Foden, and all the best players, Palmer always plays with his head up.Nope. Although he has had a longish run there. When at City you could easily see his balance..how he received the ball. Chin up " always' scanning and great technoque.... the physical side and management of game situations far easier to work on. Not a Palmer comment more an appreciation of your name 'Manchester la la la...Manchester la la la' that chant has not been heard for years......are you the man to bring it back?He was an academy graduate being played out of position on the left. He was never getting minutes in the middle or on the right competing against Foden, De Bruyne, Mahrez and Bernardo. That’s why he left. You could say it was bad timing but buying Doku and letting Palmer leave was a fuck up but its done now.
Yep, I’ll also bring back “we never score from a corner” seeing as how shite we are at them. Not a Palmer comment more an appreciation of your name 'Manchester la la la...Manchester la la la' that chant has not been heard for years......are you the man to bring it back?
