Cole Palmer

Yawn! Good riddance!
Quite, totally agree.. a good player with potential and 'Good luck' to him but HE'S made HIS decision, so 'Let it go, let it go!' as my granddaughters' favourite song suggests!

And, perhaps it's just me, but in the 2nd half versus The Red Filth yesterday, did I notice two occasions when he clearly failed to spot developing danger as attacks on Chelsea's goal were mounted, with rather half-hearted attempts to block off players from shooting at goal (one certainly involved Fernandes)?

Definitely something in his game that needs sorting out, pronto.. Maybe he's not quite the complete player/finished article that the media would have us believe..

What stood out for me is that he has the same laid back attitude to defending that serves him well in possession. That is to say that defensively he is something of a liability.
Well he's very talented at creating attacking threat, asking him to be perfect at defending is kinda nit picking imo. By your logic, you can also say Haaland and Messi are something of a liability too defensively.

I've always said I would have liked Palmer to stay at City and succeed, But he had the bollocks to leave and look for first team football as he wasn't prepared to hang around for his opportunity with us.

He's had a great start to his Chelsea career, When the going is good he's on his A game, Maybe not so much when the chips are down.

Personally, The more I see him at Chelsea the more I think he wouldn't get away with what he does at City, He's a passenger for large periods of these types of games and doesn't have any responsibility when it comes to the defensive side of things, Something Pep wouldn't stand for, He would also be stuck to a certain position and certain duties, Again something that wouldn't suit Palmer and he likes freedom do roam around.

I still believe it was the correct move for both parties.

The last few games I've seen him play, it looks like Maresca has told him he doesn't want him in the free role he has excelled in. He's just ploughing a furrow on the left. Strange.

He explained that vs Newcastle he anticipated Joelinton would follow him around and hack him to pieces, so he moved him slightly to the left of midfield and it worked, both our goals came from Palmer operating down the inside left channel. Not sure what his role vs United but whatever it was, Palmer had a quiet game. I feel like he’s entered the phase of his career now where teams will game plan for him and try double mark out of games. Palmer and Maresca have to find more ways of getting/engineering space for him.

He’s only just started the second full season of his career though, so stuff like this is an important learning curve. There will be the odd games here and there where he either gets marked out of the game (Liverpool away) or he just doesn’t impose himself on the game (United away).
