Colin Hendry

Pretty sure Colin Hendry's goal was a last minute winner? Thought we'd blown that game as West Ham themselves had equalised with a few minutes to go .
Stood in the home section that day, thought it probably best in the circumstances to contain my emotions when we scored!(not sure why i decided to stand with the West Ham fans tbh, looking back i think most 'run of the mill' away games were still pay at the turnstiles in the early 90s?)
Also, not sure how Steve Redmond's very dodgy spot kick actually 'crept in 'that day , don't think he ever took another for us though? Got to say It was still a better penalty than most of the ones we've taken in the last couple of years !
I was at that game as well. Turned up not realising the away end was all ticket. Asked the local Plod where the away end was & he said if you haven’t got a ticket there isn’t one - then pointed to the home end & said if you can keep your mouth shut - go in there as it was pay on the turnstile.
Needless to say was shitting myself for the 90 & desperate to avoid giving myself away despite us winning in dramatic fashion.
The locals were apoplectic.

So , now I know the reason why I didn't go with the other City fans in the away section that day!
To be honest I do prefer West Ham to pretty much all the other london clubs and have generally found most of their fans to be pretty sound. However , having said that the home terrace at Upton Park is still definitely not somewhere I would have consciously chosen to watch a match as an away fan!!!

Played football for our Sunday league team a few times over the last season or two, absolute top bloke and still fitter than us younger players!

I recall Steve Redmond took it as City had missed the previous two penalties. Can't recall who missed the first but Peter Reid missed the 2nd at Leeds..... Bizarrely Reid shot.... it hit the post and he tapped in the rebound but as the keeper didn't touch the ball the rebound was rightly ruled out.

I was in Australia at the time of this game - had arrived from England 2 days before - and was tuned in to the BBC World Service on short wave radio. The game was 9 hours ahead (in Sydney) of the UK so midnight Sunday kick off.
As someone else said, West Ham equalised late on, so when the presenter said "there's been another goal at Upton Park" I feared the worst.... then pandemonium as I lept around my room celebrating Hendry's winner.
The following weekend the clocks went forward an hour in Oz and back an hour in the UK so I was 11 hours ahead of the UK and those 3pm kick offs were now 2am - 4am games..... would go to bed at 9pm and set the alarm for 1.55am

Ridiculous decision to sell him, should have been up there as an icon similar to Dave Watson, Andy Morrison and Vincent (even Mick McCarthy for me), he went on to win the Premier League with Blackburn, you don't manage that with a dodgy centre half, so says it all, fantastic defender.

Yep, last min, the away third was a bit tight, not as tight as the relegation game, we were pleading for the middle (empty) section to be opened... they opened it.. to let the West Ham fans in !

Burnley away in the FA cup, 1991, he scored, we won 1-0, really wound up the Dingles, great atmosphere, up to half way line standing at the side and the away end we have now full of blues, I was stood up, proper old school sway forward when we scored and ended up miles from where we had been before the goal

He was a good servant to City. Top quality hard as nails old fashioned centre half. Him and Curley played together would’ve been the best pairing in the league.

Your mind plays tricks but I think it was big Col who scored the own goal that a giant media wankfest wrongly credited to the welsh wife beater on his debut. I was ten yards away - definitely went in off our player.
Yep. Deflected cross off pointon, Margetson dived over it, wife beater missed it and Hendy diverted it into the roof of the net.

Rag press, WB first goal for the rags.... Somethings never change hey...
