Coloccini.

I mean if we can get him for under 14m ish and he stays healthy and we keep him for 2 or so years, don't see why not

Cracking player, one of my favourites in the Premier League. I can see him being a Puyol type of figure in the heart of our defence but the Geordies won't get rid I'm afraid.

Midtable defender in it purest form. Decent back up for Lescott but I'd be fearful of him over an extended time.

He's better than Lescott................

With less than a week left in the transfer window and our only backup centre backs are Toure and Savic, Coloccini wouldn't be a bad signing (for under 8mill though), I would prefer someone younger though.

To give you a fair argument, it is hard to compare. But Lescott is first-choice and arguably best defender in England at the moment. Coloccini hasn't really shone through for Argentina, and Argentina don't really have any stellar centre backs.
