Chelsea telling porkies or have they deducted their own corporate allocation to get that 13,581 total? Going by that plan each team must be getting about 17,000 at least, the Holte End alone holds 13,000.

Doesn't everyone? One year (early 70's) the FA Cup winners (Leeds) and the league champions (Derby) declined the chance to play for the Charity Shield. Instead fourth placed (at a time when fourth was a failure) City and the THIRD DIVISION CHAMPIONS (Villa) played for the shield.

It means nothing. The game is just an exhibition match. I will never be overjoyed to win it nor gutted to lose it.

For our end of season DVD the tounament in Ireland and even the matches in North America got a mention - of course, along with the League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League - yet the Community Shield wasn't mentioned, at all.

Not even a little bit last year?
When they scored i put my hands on my head and thought "you bastards!". Then thirty seconds after the final whistle i was fine and looking forward to the season starting a week on Monday later.

Of all the derby defeats I've witnessed down the years, I've never got over one as quickly as that. Perhaps the 3-2 defeat in the FA Cup back in January runs it close because we made such a fight of it in the second half but the Community Shield game didn't bother me at all. I was more pissed off about the 6 hour-plus journey home.

That said, even though it's nothing more than a glorified friendly, there is a certain amount of prestige attached to it especially as these days it's played between the League winners and FA Cup holders. I see it more of a celebration of what we've won the previous season and treat it as a day out to see in the start of the new season rather than attach any real importance to the result and besides, the outcome is no indicator as to how the season will pan out.

Bearing in mind the early kick-off, it's the early train to Brum for me, find the nearest 'spoons, and get on the lash!

are city going to take it deadly serious ?

Chelsea seem to be quite active in the transfer market, does anybody think that they could beat us ?

Of course they could beat us ....

but quite frankly would anybody REALLY lose any sleep over it if they did???

This city team now is very ambitious and We now have all the pieces in place to win everything we go in for, I for one would be quite disappointed if city didn't play to win. It would be nice to start the season with another trophy, especially in the same season we win the champions league ;)
