One year (early 70's) the FA Cup winners (Leeds) and the league champions (Derby) declined the chance to play for the Charity Shield. Instead fourth placed (at a time when fourth was a failure) City and the THIRD DIVISION CHAMPIONS (Villa) played for the shield.
It means nothing. The game is just an exhibition match. I will never be overjoyed to win it nor gutted to lose it.
For our end of season DVD the tounament in Ireland and even the matches in North America got a mention - of course, along with the League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League - yet the Community Shield wasn't mentioned, at all.
Not even a little bit last year?

Chelsea seem to be quite active in the transfer market, does anybody think that they could beat us ?
