It sounds like the table had more than 4 legs and the place setting was directly over one of them. The tablecloth totally obscured the view of it and the diner was correct in assuming that there was sufficient leg room.

Correct decision. The payment looks high, but what if there's bone or tendon damage, physiotherapy, time off work, permanent pain. Soon tots up.
