Complaint to BBC regarding Pete the Badge

thank goodness I don't have to listen or watch Linekar and co every week.

The website has posted an analysis of their quarterly revenues without a single reference to a debt increase of 27%!!

lol they changed it
That BBC report is very selective. It only talks about the results for the Oct-Dec quarter but if you look at the half-year figures, revenue is up but profit is down compared to the previous year. And revenue is only up because they got more under the new PL deal. Matchday revenue is the same but they played 3 more home games this season, compared to last and they also had CL income last season. If they don't get CL this season, their figures next year aren't going to look so good at all if they're stuck with a huge wage bill and high levels of amortisation.

But they can console themselves that they sell more shirts and are the biggest club in Asia.

Ah but these are facts, PB. No good to Auntie! They stopped bothering about facts when the 6 o'clock news became a vehicle for showcasing BBC programmes.

I saw the tweet of pete the badge the other night, only had the "I wonder who he is supporting" caption on, have only just realised from this thread what they did on FB and to say it has made my blood boil is a bit of an understatement.

Maybe I let my anger out a bit much in my complaint:

Your fawning over everything related to the team from Trafford and ridicule over everything Manchester City has gone TOO FAR this time. You have been nothing short of disgraceful and anything but impartial since 2008 but you are now openly insulting individual City fans. Showing a picture of a well known City fan, who has learning difficulties, calling him Bertie, a well known offensive term from fans of the club from Trafford, is quite frankly disgusting, condescending and I consider this bullying. This is nothing less than I would expect from an organisation that employs and protects paedophiles. Would you post a picture of a fan of the team from Trafford and ridicule them with the caption Munich underneath? I find it as likely as you openly helping the police with Yewtree. I know you will do nothing with this complaint, dismiss it without a second thought, and continue to act like a teenage girl in the VIP area of their favourite boy band towards the Trafford team. I just wanted to let you know the level of distain and anger you have driven up from fans of Manchester City for eight years, and this is now reaching a level where we are considering meeting you, en-masse and in person, to discuss this embarrassingly biased coverage. We know where you are based, just over the way from the Trafford team surprisingly enough. so let us know when convenient, or better when is not convenient, and we will come down. Yours absolutely and utterly disgusted, MCFC

Thanks for completing the details on this form and we're sorry that you needed to contact us.

Nice one mate. I'd have gone for rag rather than Munich as we should not even suggest anyone using that as a taunt but you're spot on about bullying.

I'd be up for a meeting.

This bit seems somewhat irrelevant - must be some of Stone's work after his jolly yesterday!

"The results come a day after Manchester United and its official timekeeper partner, TAG Heuer, unveiled a pair of club special-edition watches. The first of the watches, the F1, is on sale for £1,300."

Unfortunately the free plug that this is an example of is exactly why they can rake in the sponsorships.
Buy the media, buy the world.

This little gem from the BBC report on their half year results:

The BBC is even advertising on their behalf. I feel another complaint coming on.

Just had a reply about the Pete the Badge picture & caption:
Many thanks for getting in touch with us about our recent social media post.

The picture you refer to was used after it had been filed by a national picture agency, captioned “Bertie”, and was used in good faith and in a congratulatory way to celebrate the fan’s dedication to Manchester City. None of the team on the BBC Sport website were aware of “Bertie” as being a derogatory term to describe City fans – and other City fans also shared the post and mirrored our congratulatory tone.

However, as it was never our intention to cause offence, we have now removed this post for the avoidance of doubt. We are proud of our inclusive and celebratory approach to social media and work hard to ensure we are balanced across the sporting spectrum at all times.

We’re sorry you’ve had cause for concern.

Kind regards

LOL. What a load of fucking bollocks.

Typical scripted response.

Organizations like the BBC will never admit mistakes.

Meetings will have been held behind closed doors, and a conciliatory response will have been cobbeled together, and then filed away.

Dispute closed.

Ask what the picture agency is, complain to them about the picture being captioned bertie (or it will be used with the same caption again in the future by someone), and who knows you might even catch the BBC in a lie.

My response:
Dear Katherine,

Thanks for your quick response but I simply don’t buy it and the reason is you’ve used that picture before with a completely different caption, which said “Can you guess who he’s supporting today?” So my guess is that someone at the BBC put that caption in. Can you tell me the name of picture agency so I can check the story, as I’m writing it up for the Manchester City fanzine?

How do I escalate this?

Regards,

My response:

It is utter bollocks! How many people do anyone know called Bertie anyway? Why use ANY name if they didn't know his real name? Just say ''This loyal City fan has been supporting his team for 50 years, anyone know who he is?''

It is a typical corporate reply, feign fake concern that they caused offence. This part is what I hate about these organisations the most.

'' We are proud of our inclusive and celebratory approach to social media and work hard to ensure we are balanced across the sporting spectrum at all times.''

DO YOU FUCK!!!

Let's start organising the protests as we will get fuck all in the way of a decent heartfelt apology just this bog standard bollocks!

Complained about Stones' Twitter account already, being used for advertising a product and now he's compounded it and added it to a BBC website
