Complaint to BBC regarding Pete the Badge

Quote, the BBC are apologising to anyone offended by this posting. Bollocks to that. The BBC should be apologising for the offensive post.

It's a subtle but nevertheless cheap, sly distinction. Sorry that you were upset (ie YOUR responsibility) rather than sorry that someone in our twat of an organisation (ie OUR responsibility) acted inappropriately.

I have no doubt it was done deliberately, probably by some Southern rag who moved down here when they relocated, thinking he was a big smart arse amongst the lads. There is no way the name Bertie would be plucked out of the air and why add a name anyway if it isn't the correct one?
100% this, proper football "bantz" to impress his other rag mates who moved up here with him - probably got a hipster beard & daft shoes as well

Totally different to the rest of this thread. As the only team in history to do it, it is an entirely appropriate parallel to draw.
Agree and in a perverse way I'm actually proud of this statistic as a) it's typical City & b) it's a reminder to the Sky generation that we have a rich history of success pre dating the 2 stints of success the Rags had. However as for the BBC they seem to be infested with Rags and Dippers who are obsessed with taking the piss out of us and having sky digs at us on the football pages

Although I knew we'd been relegated and were top scorers I didn't realise we'd finished only 14 points behind the champions. What a season that must have been!

It is a pity that the BBC is not a pay as you watch channel then we could have quite a hold over them in 2 ways, a by threatening to leave them by not watching there channels at all, by threatening to sue them for un true reporting.

Had a reply today ....

Dear Mr **********

Many thanks for getting in touch with us about our recent social media post.

The picture you refer to was used after it had been filed by a national picture agency, captioned “Bertie”, and was used in good faith and in a congratulatory way to celebrate the fan’s dedication to Manchester City. None of the team on the BBC Sport website were aware of “Bertie” as being a derogatory term to describe City fans – and other City fans also shared the post and mirrored our congratulatory tone.

However, as it was never our intention to cause offence, we have now removed this post for the avoidance of doubt. We are proud of our inclusive and celebratory approach to social media and work hard to ensure we are balanced across the sporting spectrum at all times.

We’re sorry you’ve had cause for concern.

Kind regards

Katherine Tsang
