Compulsory Voting: Yes or No?

I think the fairest way is to have compulsory voting , using proportional representation with a single transferable vote, and the ability to also vote Reopen nominations ( essentially saying I would vote but not for any of these twats) and also the option of making an abstention- I do not want to vote on this occasion.

why? what would that achieve? its something already done by a lot of people - politicians just laugh at them

They laugh because there aren't enough people who spoil ballot papers, they just don't turn out.

There's a reliance on apathy.
If "none of the above" actually garnered most of the votes-no mandate for the politicians.

Hypothetical,I know.

Every vote counts but can we only let those who agree with me and are not thick vote please…..

BM political forum has all the answers again I see ;-)

so what effect would that have? Candidates know those people exist anyway - many turn up and write that across their ballot now

Because it would 'officially' register dissatisfaction with the parties and candidates. At the moment dissatisfaction is hidden under ''too lazy to vote''

Because many people, having been forced to go to the polling station, might give it a bit of thought and vote for one of the candidates rather than taking this option.
This may not be a good idea given the bollocks printed and broadcast in favour of Brexit and the ensuing result.
