if you want to make voting "compulsory" then you have to have a penalty for not voting. Far more chance of compliance if there is a reward. The pious bollox about "if you dont vote then you get the shit you deserve" FFS, successive governments have destroyed faith in politics and the existence of safe seats and a corrupt msm have made things worse.
Manifesto promises that immediately become "aspirations", time after time. for fifty years and more we have been ruled by a minority government, and labour and tories will do everything they can to make sure nothing changes. A full turn-out and the tory party is toast, a ragbag collection of labour infighting mp's wont even agree to disagree. A coallition of "anyone but tories" is the only way to change things; for democracy, and the vast majority of the electorate's well being, and surviving the fall-out shit-storm that brexit guarantees, ( as was intended.) Wonder how putin would respond to seeing his puppets given the bum's rush? Invasion, (liberation in Kremlin-speak), asking for his bribes back, cutting off his oil and gas, or his novichok agents re-deployed.

No, and a mechanism to stop morons voting. Maybe a simple intelligence test like asking people to count how many fingers they've got without moving their mouths, and provide an answer somewhere between 9 and 11. So not too onerous but enough to filter out anyone who might be stupid enough to vote for someone like Farage or Galloway.

Every vote counts - Election results and analysed by political parties - the upcoming local elections are not even national but if there are massive swings against the Govt - if they occur in certain seats / areas then signals are sent - a sitting MP or any Party in a "safe" seat with say a 12k majority will think a lot differently if local elections result in forecasts of it being touch and go as to whether they will retain their seat.

Every vote doesn't count thats just patently untrue. If one doesn't vote they have every right to complain about the state of politics. Moreso than those that do.
