Cook also believes that money was more important to Kaka's representatives than the possibility of becoming a part of Manchester City's plans to be a major force in world football.

"The agenda we thought we were on was about Kaka coming on a journey with this club but at the end the only journey they were on was a fiscal one," he added.

"We'll continue on our journey but he won't be a part of it. Deals with the greatest players are more than complex.

"We got to talk to Kaka's father. His father said he was very interested in the project and we talked about humanitarian potential factors but when we got into discussions those issues took a back seat and financial demands came to the fore."

im sorry, but that is embarrassing. kaka to join city to be a part of the "project", do me a favour. it was only ever about the money!

I don't believe that. The man worships god and his faith comes above everything else, if it was money he'd have been here last week.

erm...........read the quote from cook about kakas father!

His dad may have wanted do a "wrighty". After all who doesn't want the best for their kids?

I don't know what he means when he says Milan bottled it.

probably because they gave into the pressure of the fans and decided to ask for more money.....so we walked awaay??

saying that cook is slightly contradicting himself......

Cook......the humaitarian issues got shelved and all they wanted to talk about was money......(suggesting we walked away because of kakas interest in money) or (the origional reports were true and kakas dad got frustrated and walked away.)

cook.......i think AC bottled it (suggesting AC pulled out of the deal)

Executive Garry Cook has reaffirmed the Club’s stance over last night’s decision to walk away from any deal involving AC Milan midfielder Kaka.

Speaking this morning at the City of Manchester Stadium, Cook told us: “It’s a mixture of disappointment and some frustration too.

“I think the intention from AC Milan was clearly to sell their player and Manchester City’s intention was clearly to bring him to the football club.

“I think there was some political pressure and definitely media space that they engaged in. To be honest, I think they bottled it, simple as that.”

“They live in a different space than we do as a football club and it’s been interesting to watch their behaviour.”

Despite numerous media reports in Italy and throughout the country, Garry continued to set the record straight: “We never met the player, we only met the representatives, we never actually made him an offer on personal terms.

“So it’s very difficult to turn down something that you’ve not been offered.

“We’ve heard everything and there’s been a bit of mudslinging, but we’re going to choose not to get into that, our objective is that we’re building a football club for the long term.

“It would have been great to have had Kaka at this football club, the Premier League would have benefitted, football would have benefitted and we were willing to make that investment on rational terms. Unfortunately, the behaviour that they showed was not what we had expected nor had we anticipated.”

Cook also cleared up reports surrounding the visit to Milan. He confirmed: “We’ve been to Milan four times and the delegation yesterday involved three lawyers that represent the legal counsel for Manchester City football club.

“It also involved a board member who had flown half way around the world from Abu Dhabi, myself and one other senior executive.

“We were confined to a room, with no food or drink, and we asked some questions of the football club and more importantly we asked some questions of the representatives of the player and they simple could not answer the questions.

“What they wanted to talk about was; ‘how much are you going to pay him?’We chose not to get into that and we didn’t make an offer to the player.

“Is he a great footballer? Yes. Does he represent all the values you would want to have as an ambassador of the sport global and were we looking for the opportunity to joint venture in areas that would take this club on to a different platform? Yes, but unfortunately the landscape changed and his representatives wanted to talk about how much we were going to pay him.

“Money was certainly the motive yesterday.”

if Cook's version is right City were clearly being set up by Milan with that "how much are you going to pay" line--at that point Milan had already chickened out of selling him and were looking to build a storyline to flatter themselves IMO.
seem's to me we have just been used as a political tool by Burlosconi. He's the one who kept Kaka in Italy!

Yes ita all MCFC's and our representatives fault..
Get a grip...we were dealing with the most corrupt Football league in the world.
Kakka - religeon - not money orientated?.

Absolute crap, religeon is driven by money and power.

Give our Club a break. Well done for pulling out.

erm...going back to my original point........ that contradicts your argument.

some intersting quotes though:
Cook= "we never actually made him an offer on personal terms. So it’s very difficult to turn down something that you’ve not been offered."

so there was enough people from city to either a) get an official quote for kakas personal terms if thats what they demended...(so it sounds like we didnt like the fact they were interested in money rather than how we could build his worldwide image alongside citys and the full plan we had for kakas future)

b) for us to turn around and in full agreement (6 high up people) say thanks but we pull the deal

“What they wanted to talk about was; ‘how much are you going to pay him?’We chose not to get into that and we didn’t make an offer to the player.

“Money was certainly the motive yesterday.”

says it all really, we were interested in building the brand and worldwide image of kaka and city, something reports suggested was crucial to him, so we would have put and extensive report together for kaka and they were more interested in money

.....ill believe cook more than anyone else........and the fact that their was a senior person from Abu Dhabi tells me mansour knew what was going on and cooks position should be safe...

we didnt make them an offer because they had fuc*ked us off by then. probably due to the fact that cook had spent a day talking about humanitarian issues and not money. imo, embarrassing!!!!

A lot of what is being said here in terms of Milans position and City's position is subjective and conjecture.

What are facts is that:

1. Milan gave us permission to talk to Kaka.

2. City met Milan a number of times and Kaka's father once.

3. We never met Kaka.

Nobody apart from those who were present knows what was spoke of, but just looking at the above facts clearly implies an offer had been tabled to Milan which was of interest to them, and a number of meetings were set up to facilitate the transfer. The only hazy area is Kaka's personal terms or indeed acceptance of the move.

Somebody has clearly bottled it, either Milan themseves when the situation suddenly got big on them, or maybe even Kaka himself. Nobody yet knows, but it does NOT look like it was us that let this slip.

Sorry, just exactly why were we talking to Kaka's father about the environment?

We wanted Kaka...Milan said he's for sale, lets discuss...we go over there with an offer...Milan say, come back next week, we'll agree the fee, then you can talk to the player...we arrive, Milan start procrastinating (and probably start asking for more money)

And how is Milan saying "so how much will you pay then?" either procrastinating or asking for more money?

WE didn't table a bloody offer did we, so how it can be positioned that THEY weren't serious is beyond me. Yes they had cold feet, but that doesn't necessarily mean there was no deal to be had. If that was the case, why would they even have met us? They could have phoned up and said "sorry he's not for sale and he's committed to the club, don't bother coming". That would have been even better for them. But they didn't do that, did they. They met us to hear our offer. And we decided not to make one.

Its plain to me that WE got colder feet than them.

“It also involved a board member who had flown half way around the world from Abu Dhabi....."
A slight exaggeration there from Cooky, but I'll let him off!!

I dont think we were talking about the "environment"...but that meeting was meant to be about the vision, the aspirations of the club and how Kaka was to be integrated into that...to benefit HIS profile as well as ours

Yes they his father wanted to talk personal deals like wage etc and Cookie didn't have an answer obviously since he said no personal terms were discussed

And he doesn't mind everyone knowing about it and engaging in (staged) public acts does he? Did you read his public statement after the deal fell through? Disturbing.

Where the FUCK did you get that we didn't table an offer?????????????????????

Doesn't really matter does it at the end of the day? Mind games aside, the fact of the matter is he is not coming to the club, that's the be all and end all. The other details are irrelevant and we should move on!
