Coppers-again

People know my views on the OB so going to try and be objective. However did any of you see how bad the attitude of the police were (in some cases) and how aggressive/arrogant they were? They epitomised the myth that a lot of them were bullied at school and wore the badge as an excuse to abuse their power.

Even those idiot young lads at the end who ended up hurting the WPC's nose, you can easily see how (if the cameras were not rolling) they could have been fixed up for punching her when infact it was completely accidental (although their behaviour was a disgrace and embarrassing)

It's quite obvious bb2 that you don't see the things others see. The lad at the end had been told numerous times to leave. He didn't then continued to shout and swear in the street. Whichever way you look at it, that's a public order offence whether you like it or not, it's the law. When he was then informed he was being arrested he then attempted to get away / stop them arresting him by fighting with the police at the scene. The police were aggresive towards him, in that situation I would have done exactly the same, you have to nullify any threat immediately by being more agressive than they are or you run the risk of being injured yourself. A bit like when you go into a tackle when playing football, if you don't go in properly the risk of you getting hurt is much greater.

A quick question....If you or your family had their house broken into, were mugged, assaulted or any other myriad of things, who would be the first people you phoned? I'll have a little bet with myself to what your answer will be.

No, I totally agree mate, the guy was well out of order and deserved to get nicked. What I meant was the two youngish coppers chatting in the van it smacked of them being drunk on the power of the uniform. I can not remember the exact quotes but they came across badly IMO.

My house was broken into (well they go in an open window and took cash) in August and I did not call the police because a) I did not need a crime ref number as I could not prove how much they had taken and b) I had not confidence in them being caught and c) they only took cash no electricals etc and d) It was my own stupid fault for leaving a front window open on a terrace street.

And to answer your other question, if I was a victim of serious crime of course I'd call the police, but I have little or no faith in them and whether you like it or not thats an opinion shared by many.

Just got to be more harsh. So for example if someone is being a total prick and a pain in the arse, drag them along the floor then throw them into the cell with a no-nonsense approach. If they get a little cut, so what? They shouldn't be being a prick in the first place. They certainly won't do it again. Oh wait a minute....

On the other hand though you could offer them a nice warm cell with a blanket, pillow, a brew and a hearty stew, which is what I got when I once acted like a prick through drink. Luckily for me the experience of being arrested and celled for the night was enough alone to make me think twice, but some people would simply see that as an easy nights kip and will go and do it again and again and again.

Doesn't sound like any cop shop i've ever been in.
Wooden bed, wooden pillow and a stinking blanket.
Definitely no brew and stew, mind you the last time
i had the misfortune was about 28yrs ago.
Collyhurst nick, 2004. I kid you not, I even had a choice of what I wanted to eat! The only thing non-'luxury' was having to piss with a copper in tow and I had been on the beer all day, so I had a lot of piss in me! I was surprised though, very surprised at the 'niceness' of it all. I'm presuming they can tell the scallys from those who are there on a one off like I was, and treat them slightly different. Like I said though, I learnt just from being faced with hand cuffs that that would be the one and only time it happened to me, whereas some simply do not learn. Maybe a clout on the head will help them learn.

As far as I could see the two in the van were doing what most people do, chatting about their job. One of them said something about an £80 fine not being a detterent and he'd rather they were locked up for a week as that would be more of a detterent in his view. If I'm honest and I know a few others have touched on it in this thread, fines like that and a slap on the wrist doesn't work and never will. Maybe the bobby in the van had a point?

And give someone a criminal record for one drunken night? I would have more respect for the police if I didn't seem them sneakily parked up right where a road goes from 40mph-30mph.

Are you or your family police?

Nope, neither. If you are prepared to commit the crime....well you know the rest. Again, if a child is knocked down and seriously injured or killed by a car travelling at 37mph in a 30mph zone and God forbid it's your kid or one of your family then is it not right to enforce the law?
