Cornwall

Never been to Cornwall or Devon. My family used to all go down there over the Easter weekend for a week. I never went as it meant I could basically go nuts up here in my own without any parental mither.
I'm now late 40s & can't believe I've never been there.
Once Tui officially confirm I'm not going abroad in April, and if we're allowed to travel for leisure, I've told the Mrs that we'll spend a week down there instead.

Are any of Rick Stein restaurants worthy of the hype ? Love my seafood and if the restaurants are good I don’t mind paying the money .

We stayed two nights at his gaff and had a meal there and it was very good, think his son runs it all now, tables were a bit a tight but food quality was excellent.

11 of us stayed in perranporth for a week 2019. Had great time, recommend Perranporth beach, Bedruthan steps, Crantock beach, Fistral beach, Trebah gardens, St Michaels mount, Port Isaac, St Ives

Where would people recommend for a base for a week with a couple of older teenagers? Its not an area of the country I know at all?

Good restaurant at rock, can’t remember it’s name though, it’s been a few years.
We just walked round the beach from Polzeath to get the ferry to Padstow so didn’t see the place really mate. Padstow was a bit busy and touristy for my liking but a lovely town. If we’d have known I’d have gone because we had a recommendation to stay in Polzeath but aside from the nice big beach it didn’t have much else going for it in the way of pubs or restaurants. Expected a lot more from the people who recommended it.

I’ve actually done that on my bike in Stalybridge!

Stayed near Lands End with the three young children in a caravan once, it took 12 hours to get there stopping once and then again in Devon because of traffic jams that was in 1980, we swore if we ever went back we would go by train and hire a car if we needed one.

It was a lovely holiday apart from the journey down, the weather was gorgeous we had picnics and all the things you do on holiday without spending much money apart from ice cream.

yes near St Ives, or Newquay for a base

Fly from Manchester, a little over 40 minutes...

Covered every blade of grass in Cornwall (work). Surprisingly a lot of shitholes there and its full of racists.

But without delving into that its mostly beautiful, on the surface at least.

Tintagel- "home of King arthur" is good for a day trip

St Ives - best of the bunch.."Cornwall or Caribbean"

Looe - is nice, though I know 2 separate people who live there and both are from Essex and both are United fans.

I could wax lyrical about Cornwall all day & night.
First went in teens with a mate but when I went 20 years ago when my daughter was one, I just fell in love & have been pretty much every year since.

There are issues there though and those recent programs highlight these.

Rock Stein (Padstein) has made some lovely programs about it recently.

North Coast (St. Agnes) is where I normally gravitate but always spend a day in St. Ives, and when it ‘pings’ it’s one of my favourite places in the U.K.

Breaking the journey up is a good idea.

PM me if you need any other suggestions....
Once stayed at a beach front accommodation there in the 70's as a kid. Still sticks in my mind as one of the best holidays I ever had... Watching the most amazing surf and the beautiful walks around the headlands to the abandoned tin mines...

Love it down there.

Be careful with your dates as it's the G7 summit in Carbis Bay early June, don't want to run into that traffic around St Ives

Stayed Fowey last year was great, really enjoyed it, would recommend to anyone.

Back to St Agnes this year in June myself, beach restaurants and pubs all in walking distance.

aiming to do a few of these on North Coast this year
Tintagel Castle
Perranporth Beach
Trevenaunce Cove
Crantock Bay
Bedruthan Steps
Port Isaac
Porth Towan Beach
Padstow

Would recommend the below 100%

South Coast

Charlestown - Old World Harbour
Polkerris - Really nice small cove with restaurant, surf shop, pub
Polperro - very quiant fishing village, no cars in the center, reminded me of Clovelly

West Cornwall

Porthcurno - Lovely Beach and the Miniack Theatre, Pedn Vounder beach nearby as well
Kynance Cove - Best beach I've been to in UK, bar none

I would avoid Looe and Newquay

Oh and stop at Gloucester services
Me & my daughter stay in St. Agnes...it’s become our fave place with Trevaunance cove as our go to spot (with a lovely bar overlooking the beach).
St. Ive’s is one of my fave haunts too...
Fowey is lovely (Dawn French owns a sprawling mansion there the lucky sod).

Rock is a nice spot (you go past Gordon Ramsey’s new house/mansion as you head in. Not much there really (Paul Ainsworth has a restaurant there).

So many wonderful places tbh...

Watching surfers on the north coast at magic hour is absolutely breath taking.

Love Cornwall, but do not underestimate the trod out West - England seems to go on forever in that direction and you could be half way down France with more guaranteed sunshine in about the same time as getting to lands end.

Kynance is my favourite spot in the uk. Was a quiet place in the seventies as a kid. Check the tide times though, low tide reveals further beaches, tunnels, rock pools and less congestion. Sennen far west has a great black too.

Roseland peninsula worth a visit - St Mawes is nice. On the north hit the surf and take your pick. If at St Ives, sit in the Rum and Crab Shack and watch the weather roll through. Sunset with pizza and beers at Polzeath great too.

I always drive in one hit. Leave at 5am, in Cornwall for breakfast.
