England hospital deaths 707 - way down on last weeks 973 - very promising falls week to week.

But NW still very high at 102. Biggest recent % of all here.

Cautiously willing to say we are turning a corner here now but NW might be the slowest to emerge - thojugh happily not from as high as a point as it might have been.

As long as those vaccine numbers keep going up at the same high rate, and they're numbers of people actually vaccinated, not offered, i'm not really bothered tbh how they word these things. It'll make a difference even if it's 'only' 80% of vulnerable people or something (random guess).
Spot on I would rather the efforts be concentrated on getting vaccine into people than data crunching at the moment.

I don't think there's a black and white divide here.

"Boris Johnson is a complete ****" is obviously for the political thread.

But "The policies we have in place will not work for the following reasons" is political but also relevant here, surely?
Agreed, there should be a distinction between party political point-scoring and constructive criticism of government policy.

707 England hospital deaths by age:

20 - 39 (11) 1.6%

40 - 59 (52) 7.4%

60 - 79 (287) 40.6%

80 PLUS (357) 50.4%

This is hinting at a shift. Lowest over 80 percentage I can recall. It was not that long ago nearer 60 than 50 and I don't think has ever been below 50. The percentage under 60 being more often now closer to 10%

This is actually what we might expect to see given the vaccine is being given first and longest to the over 80s.

One day proves nothing. But deaths are falling and we are getting hints of a distribution change in the otherwise far too broad age ranges offered.

Notable drop in hospital deaths week on week!
