They will likely clarify the confusion over holidays - saying that amber has been redefined as a lighter shade of red instead of a diluted form of green. So hopefully now you will all understand what we are not telling you that we do not want you to do so that if you then do it and we decide later that you should not have done it because you thought you should then we can say it was your fault - not ours - for we had clearly explained to you what the situation was.

Is it not a neon shade of sunrise university copper gold? At least that's what Puma would call it if it was on our kit.

Seriously though yet again the inability to make clear messaging on Covid is rearing its head. We desperately need someone to be appointed as minister for clarity as that has been in very short supply throughout the pandemic and it is actually one of the most needed things.

Problem is a democracy has to walk a tightrope of giving people freedom of choice whilst knowing that every person who chooses selfishly puts lives at risk. Getting the balance right is hard and so much easier in an autocratic society that happily we are not.

But that is why we depend on good messaging and these press conferences have long since been just ego trips for famous TV presenters to showcase 'look at what I asked today' on the news. Not actual attempts to change minds and educate people about what is needed from them at that point in time.

You can see already today there are politicians saying radically different things on holidays based on their interpretation of words that are deliberately open ended in case they need to cover someone they like doing something they might not like but can later say was actually just an interpretation of the guidelines.

Government has to clarify not mystify. Whoever is the party in charge. I have said often in here over the months why messaging matters and right now as we open up people need that more than ever.

It’s not even that the messaging isn’t clear. They’re actually contradicting each other. I don’t understand their reticence. I appreciate they wish to give people some freedom of choice, but they had no problem with banning those of us in the NW from having people in our homes for months on end. Why they can’t keep people from going on holiday to certain places for a bit longer, I don’t know.

Most interestingly Gov UK has now added details of local vaccination numbers to the site.

I checked on 4 different GM boroughs just to see what differences appear.

They show really stark differences in uptake as you can see.

Anyone wanting me to post their own area just ask:

Borough / % Vaccinated First Dose / Second Dose 10 May VERSUS Same data on 17 May

BOLTON 59.8% / 31. 7 % VERSUS 63.2% /36.2%
\
MANCHESTER 41.4% / 20.1% VERSUS 44. 1% / 22.9%

OLDHAM 58.8% / 32.4% VERSUS 60.7% / 35.7%

STOCKPORT 65% / 37% VERSUS 67.7% / 42%

Liverpool - by the way - with case numbers well below Manchester right now and the lowest major city in the country it seems is:-

52.5% / 28.2% VERSUS 54.4% / 32.1%

So well above Manchester but well below Stockport which seems to be doing very well and even over Bolton where the past week increase due to mass vaccinating is apparent.

I suspect Manchester is low due to the age demographic of those of us living in and around the city centre and so most are yet to be offered

Have you looked out of the window?

I’ll be off on to Portugal next week and another holiday asap and can’t wait. Life is for living not just existing
I'm walking Hadrians Wall this week, glorious weather, great pubs, no place I'd rather be (except the Etihad).

London is very low. Presumably for the same reason.

Westminster is actually at 311 out of all boroughs pretty much the worst in England!

And the next 10 lowest uptake boroughs are all in London.

Wales Data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

44 cases - was 22 last week

0.8% positivity - was 0.4% last week

I am sure someone will panic as this has doubled. But at these levels small ups and down are inevitable. It is actually the lowest number since last Wednesday.

Superb news on Liverpool after the first dance events and Blossoms gigs. Proof we can open up for concerts and nightclubs safely let’s get this done.
