The message should absolutely be do not book a holiday abroad for the next 12 months if you want this country to return to normality. Not sure why the transport secretary brought UK holidays into it though.
Don’t think they can win, mate. If they’re answered in something that isn’t under their jurisdiction and they don’t answer, they get hammered for refusing to comment.

Do you know what mate, this holiday business is so fucking annoying. I’ve just had the misfortune of having to listen to Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd grilling Matt Hancock on GMB about the so called mixed messaging about can we book a holiday this summer.

Christ, it’s insane, what is the fucking obsession about booking a fucking holiday when we are in lockdown? I wish Hancock had just said, ”are you all fucking thick?”, it’s just common sense. Why do they think it’s clever to try and argue the toss about politicians giving mixed messages - “Grant Shapps said this, Boris said that, you said this”.

Government have a lot to answer for at some point, we know that, but give it a rest. Take a risk of booking one if you want, or don’t. It’s fucking painful.

I can't think of anything worse than trying to book a holiday, packed airports, packed planes, packed beaches, tourists overload everywhere. not for me at all at the moment, will wait until it all calms down, however long.

the message was to not book even in the UK.
It doesn’t mean everyone has to agree with a video 100%. Everyone has the option to stay at home but I can’t see that happening if we drive down the cases to the 100s, rather than the thousands.

why force them into a decision like that when they do not know, it's a ongoing situation and can only advise best case scenarios at the moment.
Simply because with the vaccinations, the situation in the UK will likely be better than most of the world, shutting up shot will guard against any new potential mutations.

People don’t need to travel, it’s a luxury and I’d sooner get our society back to normal than allow holidays.

And this is me who could completely lose £300 on a stag do to Albufeira, that’s been paid. I don’t care, I want our society back to resembling something like it used to.

Agree, but it would be silly for them to say 'we are locked in for rest of the year, no holidays' when that might not be the case in 4/5 months.

Some people do. My eldest daughter was supposed to go to Madrid for her year abroad last September. She's had to take a year out of uni and hopes to go this September. Putting it off again is not really an option. This is a Spanish course by the way, not just a year abroad for the fun of it.

To balance all the "shut up shop" messages, there was some expert commenting the other day that you can't stop infections entering a country no matter how hard you try. The government will spend millions with these quarantine hotels and you can bet a lot of money that a couple of new strains will sneak in via a transport link or some other way.

Social distancing, mask wearing and being sensible + vaccinations is the way forward from May/June onwards - not stopping people travelling to and from an area with a similar level of infections.

The holiday situation started by Hancock coming on TV saying he thought things should be as good as back to normal by the summer. Then mixed messages started coming out, all different to whatever minister was being interviewed. You'd think that they'd all meet up and agree to one thing to say before they were rolled out for their interviews.

As for holidays in this country you'll be lucky to find anywhere with any vacancies for this year and if you do they are extortionate. All those wealthy people that jet off to Barbados and Antigua will pay whatever it takes for a lodge in Bognor Regis this year, so pricing their regular clientele out.

My sister, her husband and my parents usually book a lodge for a few days over Christmas. She has checked this year out of curiosity and almost everywhere is booked up. Anywhere that isn't is at least double the price they were quoting for last year.

I managed to get away to Tenerife for five weeks in July/August last year. Although lots of places were closed I could listen to live music every night, have a few beers and get some sun, catch up with friends who live out there. It wasn't quite the same as normal but by God I'm glad I went out now.
