1m have been vaccinated and I reckon it's a realistic to expect 1 m more by this time next week.

It's not a competition but the UK is doing far better than more or less any country in the world. There is a lot of criticism in Germany and France at the slow progress there. France has vaccinated just over 300 people and Germany less than 10,000.

I work for a German company and several of my German colleagues told me that when the UK approved the Pfizer vaccine the media narrative there was that is was a desperate gamble & due process wasn't followed. That narrative has quickly changed to criticism of the German government at the slow rate of roll out.

They have started vaccinating everyone over 65 in Florida. But admitted they do not yet have enough for them all.

There will be a LOT of people aged over 65 in that State.

Good point. Astrazeneca's Indian partners have 50m doses waiting to go I believe.

It may not be an issue in the UK if they have the manufacturing capacity??

The Guardian is reporting that the Oxford vaccine has been approved by India so we can't expect any supplies from there I reckon. The Indian producer is one of the largest vaccine manufacturers in the world and it dwarfs output from the UK plant in Wrexham.

One thing about the Oxford vaccine that is puzzling me is why the government didn't place an order with Astra Zeneca to produce say 20 million doses before final approval. It probably was apparent quite a while ago that the vaccine was effective and more or less certain to be approved. At a cost of less than £3 a shot it would have been small change in the overall scheme of things even in the unlikely event that it didn't gain approval.
Same reason they havent managed any sort of plan to start rolling out the vaccination program as soon as it was approved. Instead lets wait five days? when they have known for mths that this day was coming. Same reason we apparently dont have enough syringes or vaccine bottles. Fail to plan and you plan to fail. We are fighting a war with the virus and for some reasonthose in power seem to think another 5 days of deaths ie another 4000 people is Ok?? Thats what happens when you have politicians and civil servants in charge. Utter ineptitude. Ps I am under no illusion that this would not be the same under Labour, these career politicians are all cut from the same cloth.

AZ is a British company not Indian and im guessing its down to who placed the orders first.

nope, million available Monday. It’s been increased

the should be up to 2 million a week not long after

thats just the oxford vaccine

it’d be nice to get everyone vaccinated over a weekend but it’s not going to happen.

We are going to be going faster than pretty much every major economy
Perhaps you’d like to tell Whitty that.

4.9 million according to the 2018 census, though that presumably doesn’t include the snowbirds.

England hospital deaths 420 - with 42 from the NW.

That is not too bad considering and as you can see just 10% from the NW.

Only up from 401 last week (which was Christmas Day and Christmas Eve data).

In fact a week later the number who died actually on Christmas Eve stands at 310 a week later.

Almost every day now there are over 300 people dying in England hospitals.
