Coronavirus (2021) thread

Looking at the figures so far the take up is incredibly high compared to any vaccine previously. You will never achieve 100% take up but as the roll out continues and those that won't have it see their unvaccinated family and friends still falling ill and possibly dying because of Covid I'd expect a further increase in take up in all groups after the vast bulk of the population has been done.

So my question about this is hearing a report, last week, that (at the time) 97% of the vaccine takers are the Caucasian population.

I, myself, haven't vaccinated yet because the docs told me they weren't sure if the vaccine would reactivate my sarcoid, which nearly killed me 13 years ago.

So, generally speaking (or anecdotally) it seems the BAME population is less trusting.

I wonder why that is?

It's a fact that minority groups have a lower take up and to be honest I can't understand that as statistically they have a higher risk of dying from Covid. The notion that there is some sort of endemic racism within the NHS which is putting them off being vaccinated also seems bizarre to me.

The NICE Committee needs to resign en-masse. 4 studies were reviewed in September - 3 showing g Vit D was super important in reducing Covid deaths were thrown out. One showing marginal benefit was accepted.
A larger randomised trial from Barcelona is now out and it shows that 60% less deaths would have happened had large doses of Calcitriol been given to patients on admission to hospital.
(Note: Calcitriol is the hormone that the body converts Vitamin D into after 7 days)

I see Amanda Holden is "devastated" at breaking the lockdown rules on unnecessary travel. She travelled over 200 miles after receiving a "distressing" call from her father. Now, I do sympathise. It's a terrible position to find yourself in. But how many people have lost loved ones during the past year, and couldn't be there with them in their last moments, or be at their funeral. Look at Pep and Klopp, to use two well known people. She's accepted that she was in the wrong, but argues that both her parents have been vaccinated, and that she is tested weekly, therfore the risk was minimal. Still broke the rules though.

Also, it was pure coincidence that this happened on her birthday, of course.

She also apparently has a sister who lives in the same part of the country (Cornwall) as her parents.

I think I can accept someone in those circumstances fessing up and agreeing she acted hastily amid what would have been a huge dilemma for any one of us.

We should not be going after her because she is a celeb - the only reason this is even newsworthy and not 99% of the similar stories that happen every day with people who do not give a stuff that they acted this way or even think they did anything wrong.

Happily I was never a celeb or anything like one but I have faced tabloids making up stories or exaggerating truth into a twisted version of it because they can and think it 'in the public interest to do that regardless of who you are. Though thankfully laws have tightened up a bit since the days anyone in the media would write about me.

The media should focus on dealing with the real problems of lockdown here not looking for stories by sifting through the rubbish left over each night in the bins of celebrity lives.

Like family kept apart from parents in hospital with Covid whilst the social system tries to find a way to get them home but has no money to do so.

How many thinking what Amanda did here was wrong would have broken the rules if they were being kept away from a parent in distress in hospital they know they might never see again?

Update on vaccine side effects, having had the AZ jab yesterday.

Felt a bit weird and “not quite there”, if you know what I mean, for about an hour. That passed quickly.

Had really cold hands all day, but manageable.

Now, all that is left is a slightly sore arm.

Its totally worth having and we need to try to convince the naysayers that it’s no big deal and our quickest route to normality.
Had mine about an hour ago, nothing yet but the arm does feel a little sore.
Very impressed with the process, in and out in just over five minutes, had the AZ jab, had to wait 15 minutes before driving again, had the option of sitting in the facility or waiting in my car, chose the latter.
I have the paracetamol on stand by just in case.

There was no need for her to travel. She has a sister living a lot closer to her parents than she does. Also, this just happened to occur on her birthday? Riiight.

Her birthday is this Tuesday, I'm not sure it's a factor personally. It all depends on what the issue was with her stepdad (I know way too much about her!!).

Non story, probably.
