They’ve still lived their lives. The younger generation today are going to be paying for all of this for a bloody long time, they’ve already lost a year or more of their lives yet now are being told to wait while the elderly, those who the younger ones protected by not going out, can start living their lives again. I’m just saying I don’t think it’s very fair.
But that’s not what’s happening. If the decision is made by a country that you can only visit if you’re vaccinated then how does stopping everyone going help the young? They have to wait as that’s the imposed rule. It just stops those vaccinated going sooner. By the same logic last summer the young etc were all able to go out when restrictions were lifted, it wasn’t decided because a few million had to shield then everyone else had to wait too?

The FDA are on the verge of approving the Johnson & Johnson single shot vaccine so hopefully we won’t be far behind. This is a game changer to get through the younger, less at risk groups quickly and it might even allow them to enjoy holidays abroad at the same time as us FOCs :)

I'm talking about all the older ones who have lost their lives. A financial hit for a few years - the burden of which we're all going to share - doesn't really compare to popping your clogs. Crikey mate, you're looking at a difference of a couple of months or so between those who can technically go abroad in May and those who can't. Why the rush to get on the first flight out of the country on May 17th when the chances are a lot of destinations will still have restrictions in place? I've just had a flight to Malta in April cancelled on me by EasyJet (already pushed back from last June) to go with the 3 holidays I had cancelled last year but I'm not in any great rush to re-book it for the following month. Instead, I'll push it back again - this time to next May or June. With that in mind, I've booked 4 days in a caravan in Yorkshire at the end of June with Haven. Me, the other half, and my pet springer. £165 all in. Bargain.
Mate I’ve booked a week in Devon, I’m in no rush whatsoever to leave the country and was actually lucky enough last year to get abroad twice. I’m posting this for a younger persons perspective, not my own btw.

Whem the lockdown ends there's going to be a risky period with a lot more social contact and inevitably higher infection rate before a lot of people get vaccinated. That period worries me. I would have been more comfortable with restrictions loosening after vaccination and not before, however the world does not revolve around me.

that's the bit i cant rectify also, but i am hoping (hoping!) that last year's seasonal effect comes back in a strong way (remember there was a lot of mixing last summer in a largely untouched populous with not many cases, albeit without the more transmissable variant)

also i feel that by the time June comes, mixing will have been increasing steadily over months, i mean it's started weeks ago really and is about to leap forward in March , and so there will be no flashy upswing in cases but more troughs and peaks. I can see the steps being pushed back and cumulatively back into July

the only two things left for me are continued restrictions due to the unvaccinated populace (more autumn/winter) and a new surprise variant.

i also dont like controlled entry to venues via a health app, that's just shifting responsibility from governance to private sector. have some balls and legislate it, if that's the way you want to country to operate. (also have no idea how tourists prove theyve had a jab once the tourism sector opens back up)

I’m not talking mainly about holidays but vaccination passports to use facilities in the U.K.

I haven't seen anywhere talking about reviewing that idea for domestic facilities, only international travel. I think certain venues might implement that rule depending on the set up but unlikely it will be legislated
